First UMC of Redondo Beach United Women in Faith, and Pastor Lisa, invited me to their All-Circle potluck. The guest speaker, Liz Ruiz, from The Center for Restorative Justice, offered amazing insight into the Get On The Bus program. This is a Social Action program that is near and dear to many UWFaith local units. One of its goals is to bring families together, but not in the sense one may think if you’re not familiar with it.

Get On The Bus program, not to be confused with the 1996 movie, brings children and their caregivers throughout California to visit their mothers and fathers in prison.

Get On The Bus program offers free transportation to the children and their caregivers to the prison, provide travel bags for the children, and comfort bags for the caregivers. Meals for the day are provided, and depending on the location of the prison, overnight accommodation for the children and caregivers.
