When God purpose in His own good pleasure the birth of an infant, He prepares the subject, place and time, and so it was with the coming of a church to be established. The first prayer service of the intended church was held at 3430 Walton Avenue on Wednesday, October 3, 1975 at 7:30 p.m. James Missionary Baptist Church was established on Sunday, October 12, 1975 at the Mt. Sina

i Baptist Church, 1800 South Gramercy Place with the Late Rev. There were seven (7) present that became a part of the church

Much time and effort had been spent in search of a place for worship, however, by the Grace of God a church building was found at 1225 West Jefferson Boulevard. After a week of hard work and sacrificing in the cleaning and painting of the building, our first worship services were held on the following Sunday, October 19, 1975 with Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. (There were five (5) in attendance and the Superintendent) Morning Worship at 10:45 a.m. (There were four (4) choir members) Afternoon Service at 3:30 p.m. with Pine Grove Baptist Church as our guest. Albert Nicholas, Pastor. Deacon Willie Gaines gave his service during the establishing of the church (St. He was a member of the St. John Baptist Church, Rev. Peterson, Pastor. On Wednesday Night, October 22, 1975 the first prayer service was held in our church at 1225 West Jefferson Boulevard with two (2) in attendance. Also, during 1975 the Deacon and Trustee Boards were organized. The Church’s dedication service was held Sunday, January 4, 1976 and our guest was Eternal Hope Baptist Church, Rev. Danny Manywather, Pastor. Our first baptismal service was July 4, 1976 at Eternal Hope Baptist Church where seven (7) were baptized. Worship services were held at 1225 West Jefferson Boulevard from October 1975 until we moved to our present location 1882 West Jefferson Boulevard in March 1980. Many improvements had to be made to the property before moving in and after moving in more improvements were made. Ridgeway served as Pastor at St. James until the Lord called him home on April 15, 1982. Floyd Owens was installed as Pastor on October 10, 1982. In August 2002, the building here at 1882 West Jefferson Boulevard was demolished in order to build. We were blessed to march into our new edifice on July 13, 2003 here at the same location 1882 West Jefferson Boulevard. Since the church was established, the Deacon , Deaconess, Mother’s and Trustee Boards, prayer band, junior and senior missions, mission chorus, ushers, birthday clubs, first aiders, educational fund, and Vacation Bible School have been organized. The current choirs include Sanctuary, Voices of Praise and Male Chorus. Many persons have united with the church since October 1975, some candidates for baptism and some by Christian Experience, but more importantly we have grown spiritually. We have been leaning and depending on the Lord. Trusting in His Holy Word, He’s never failed us yet. So, the infant Saint James was born and fashioned by our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ.
