An exciting time is upon the Jewish community of Los Angeles. Cheder of Los Angeles girls' school, Bais Tzivia, has recently broken ground on a much larger school building on La Brea Avenue in the Beverly-La Brea District of Los Angeles! With a student body of over 400 girls, Bais Tzivia like the cheder is a chasidishe school, teaching the girls in Yiddish. Just two doors up the street site Bnos Esther, a girls Chasidishe high school which is naturally a likely choice for the students after completing studies at Bais Tzivia.

Moshe Yitzchok Rubin, or “Moishe” as he was known to so many, was a very special little boy who brought joy to an entire community. Although challenged, his infectious personality and love for everyone he encountered truly taught all of us the valuable lessons of tolerance and acceptance.

Moishe, the son of Rav and Mrs. Chaim Baruch Rubin, was an integral part of the community in general. But perhaps his favorite place was his synagogue, Congregation Etz Chaim of Hancock Park where his father is the spiritual leader.

Although challenged, and suffering from a terrible disease which eventually took his life, Moishe taught an entire community the lessons of love, acceptance and tolerance. And for this reason, the City of Los Angeles decided, as an everlasting testament to his very special, though short life, to dedicate the intersection of Highland Avenue and Third Street as the “Moshe Rubin Memorial Square.” In celebration of this event, there was a festive Hachnossos Sefer Torah, hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Treitel and family. The community was very grateful to Councilman Paul Koretz, who was instrumental in the dedication of the intersection. Councilman Koretz was honored with carrying the Sefer Torah into the Aron Kodesh. The dedication event concluded with a concert with Shloime Dachs, who was a very special friend of Moishe’s.

The event occured Sunday, March 27th, at 1:30 pm and commenced with the Hachnossos Sefer Torah at the corner of Highland Avenue and Second Street.
