Bible Note: Dan: 1.The initial territory of Dan appears in dark green north of Philistia on this map of the tribes.
Scripture: Genesis 30:6 KJV
vs.6, "And Rachel said, God hath judged me, and hath also heard my voice, and hath given me a son: therefore called she his name Dan."
Commentary:
20 century B.C.
Dan was Jacob's fifth son and his first with Rachel. His name is the sign of God's favorable "judgment" or vindication of Rachel, and Dan was blessed with the ability to judge or govern his tribe with the help of others.
According to Jacob's blessing. Dan was like a "snake" in his subtle and venomous attacks on the enemy. Moses referred to the tribe as a "lion's whelp," that is, fierce and vigorous fighters. Indeed, many fine fighters grew up from the ranks of the Danites, including the warrior-judge Samson. Descendants of Dan marched north to conquer Laish during the period of the Judges, which established the northernmost extremity of Israel: "from Dan to Beersheba."

Bible Notes: The Prodigal Son returns home and receives his father’s forgiveness:
Scripture: St. Luke 15:11-32 KJV (The Parable of the lost son)
vs.11, “And he said, A certain man had two sons:”
vs.12, “And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me.
And he divided unto them his living.”
vs.13, “And not many days after the younger son gather all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.”
Commentary:
The Prodigal Son was not so named in the Bible, but he was the foolish son in one of Jesus’s parables who asked for an early
inheritance and subsequently squandered it on wild living in another country. When famine hit, he got a job feeding pigs in the field. His hunger was so great that he even craved their food. The Prodigal Son realized that even his father’s hired men had food to spare. He longed for home and determined to return and work as a servant. The repentant son expressed how unworthy
he was to be his father’s son, but he was met with his father’s unconditional love and forgiveness and restored to his place in
the family in spite of his brother’s objections. The parable is meant to convey the attitude of forgiveness that Hod expresses to those who repent of their sins.
