Interfaith Communities United for Justice and Peace was founded in Los Angeles after 9/11 to support faith leaders from Buddhist, Christian, Muslim, Jewish and other traditions who believe "Religious Communities Must Stop Blessing War and Violence." ICUJP's activities promote critical examination of the costs of violence and war at home and in the world from the Faith perspective. We insist on res

pect for human rights, international law and the use of peaceful means in the resolution of conflicts. Since September 2001, a committed group has combined with newcomers almost every Friday morning at 7:00 am. While in-person meetings have been on hold due to Covid, we've continued meeting online during the pandemic. At these meetings, you might hear about issues from ACLU attorneys, local racial and economic justice activists, Palestinian/Israeli nonviolent advocates, or Colombian labor organizers, often with a faith-based orientation.

American Muslims’ Unique Role Against Anti-U.S. Sentiment and Islamophobia

Last week, the country was shaken by an attack at the Islamic Center of San Diego. Three people were killed - two congregants and one security guard, and the two perpetrators died as well.

Salam al-Marayati of the Muslim Public Affairs Council - MPAC will join us in discussion on the current administration-fueled attack on Islam and how US Muslims are in a unique position and occupy an indispensable space in the conversation.

I just signed a petition urging Governor Gavin Newsom to commute every death sentence in California.

There is a lot happening in the world, and one of the things that is not getting a lot of coverage is how governors across the country are greenlighting executions. Gov. Newsom has already paused executions in California. Now he can take a stand for human dignity by granting something called universal clemency.
Universal clemency commutes every death sentence across the board, so that the governor does not have to consider cases one by one. It utilizes the governor's executive authority to correct the injustice of the death penalty across the board.

There are more than 500 individuals on California’s death row! This is the biggest death row in the nation and one of the largest death rows in the world. Universal clemency would not only save hundreds of lives but also set California on a path to confront the failures of its death penalty process. The hundreds of millions of dollars spent on the death penalty every year would be far better used on programs that support crime victims and prevent crime in our communities.

Can you join me and take action?

Political Repression Under Trump: The Prairieland Trial And Why It Matters To You.

A legal case in North Texas is a chilling example of the new and extreme face of political repression under the Trump regime. A total of 19 people have received legal charges stemming from a July 4th 2025 noise demonstration held at the Prairieland Detention Center in solidarity with the migrant detainees inside.

Nine of those defendants were found guilty in federal court this spring of numerous charges including "Material Support for Terrorists," despite the facts revealed at trial making it plain this was a normal demonstration with no plans for violence.

Amber Lowrey of the Prairieland Defense Committee will join us to speak on the trial and its implications on stifling legal dissent in this country.

Democracy is under attack at its very foundations of ONE VOTE, ONE PERSON. Results are already coming in following the obliteration of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 as states rush to redraw legislative districts BEFORE the midterms.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the California Voter ID initiative will be on the November ballot. At Holy Faith Episcopal we are hosting a free public meeting to raise community awareness of VOTER SUPPRESSION through presentations from invited ACLU advocates following a screening of the short acclaimed documentary "Suppressed and Sabotaged: the Fight to Vote"(2022-2024). Please plan to attend, register, and post widely.

05.15.26 Fri. Forum - Peace Protests at Vandenberg: Stop ICBM Tests

Peace protests have occurred at Vandenberg during Minuteman III Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) test launches that occur every 3 months. These hydrogen bomb delivery missiles land in the target areas in the Marshall Islands. These ICBMs carry one or sometimes three dummy hydrogen bombs. Peace protests against the night ICBM tests began in 2006 and continued until February 2012.

In 2012 Daniel Ellsberg, Fr. Louie Vitale and 13 others were arrested protesting a Minuteman III ICBM test launch at Vandenberg. After the publicity about those arrests, Vandenberg stopped announcing the test launches in advance. Since 2012 there have been small protests at the night launches.

The recent US threats to use nuclear weapons, and the plan to develop and test new hydrogen bombs have triggered a renewed interest in abolishing nuclear weapons. MacGregor "Greg" Eddy of World BEYOND War, Cherrill Spencer of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, U.S. Section (WILPF) and Leah Yananton from CODEPINK: Women For Peace will speak about the night protests at Vandenberg.

05.01.26 Friday Forum - May Day: The Power Of Working People
7:30 - 9:30 am Pacific

May Day has been recognized around the world as a day to celebrate working people and to resist authoritarian governments. At this forum, we will be asking ourselves these questions at a time when the actions of working people have very real consequences in this country:

What does May Day mean to you?

Are you a member of a union? What has the power of collective bargaining meant in your life?

How have you exercised your right to protest?

What is the same and what is different about the Trump era compared to other periods of American protest?

How can we mobilize the American people to defend democracy?

Join ICUJP Board Chairperson Steve Rohde and others as we discuss the past, present and future of labor.
