Dear friends,
We don’t normally send congregational emails on Shabbat but many of you have reached out to us over the past few hours expressing your concerns and anguish about the unfolding situation at Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, Texas.
We pray for the safety of our colleague Rabbi Charlie Cytron-Walker as well as the members of his community who are currently being held hostage. We think also of their families and the entire Congregation Beth Israel community.
We hope for a time that messages like these become unnecessary. We long for the day when the forces of antisemitism and hatred be relegated to history, when — as we read in today’s Torah portion — וַיּוֹשַׁע ה׳ בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵל, all Israel will experience God’s deliverance.
Today’s frightening situation is a stark reminder that this time has not yet come. Accordingly, our security team is on heightened alert to ensure the safety of our campus and our community.
With prayers for shalom for the whole House of Israel.
