Good Friday is the solemn day when we remember Jesus' crucifixion and sacrificial death on the cross.
Good Friday draws us to the heart of the Christian story. In Christ, we see a love that does not turn away from suffering, injustice or cruelty, but enters fully into the pain of the world. The cross stands as a sign of God’s solidarity with all who suffer, and of a love that is willing to give itself completely for the sake of others.
Bible reading: John 19:30
‘When Jesus had received the wine, he said, “It is finished.” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.’
Prayer
God of love,
we stand before the cross in silence and awe.
Hold before us the suffering of Christ
and the suffering of the world he came to redeem.
Give us grace to remain with you in the darkness,
to trust in your love when the way is hard,
and to live as people shaped by the self giving love of the cross.
Amen.
