Bethel ELCA

Bethel ELCA Bethel is an inclusive, affirming and progressive faith community seeking to transform lives by exemplifying the unconditional love of Jesus. 1.

Bethel accepts the gift of salvation through Grace in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and we strive in our imperfection to be examples of His love to all peoples.
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another.” John 13:34

2. Bethel celebrates the diversity of the human race and embraces Jesus’ radical so

cial justice mission, which includes:

-- Standing in solidarity with the poor, the unhoused, the immigrant and all victims of prejudice, bigotry, violence and persecution.
“Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, and plead the widow's cause.” - Isaiah 1:17

-- Acknowledging and affirming the divinity of our LGBTQIA+ brothers and sisters and non-binary persons (becoming a Reconciling in Christ congregation). "There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” - Galatians 3:28

-- Shedding the scales of our own bias to love ourselves and our neighbors on this planet as Jesus did by practicing and growing our anti-racist discipleship and decolonizing our faith and Christianity.
“For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility.” Ephesians 2:14

3. Bethel is passionate about transforming the world by healing our own wounds while caring for one another. “He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.” Isaiah 61:1

This Week's Blog - "Whose Prayers Does God Answer?" - (part 1)

When we close our eyes and fold our hands in prayer, do we ever stop to wonder whose prayers actually reach heaven's throne? It's a question that might make us uncomfortable, especially when we consider the vast spectrum of prayers being offered across the world at any given moment—some seeking...

This Week's Blog - "Greed"

There's a famous story about John D. Rockefeller, one of the wealthiest people in history. When asked how much money would be enough, he supposedly replied: "Just a little more." That simple phrase captures something profound about human nature—our insatiable appetite for accumulation. No matter.....

This Week's Blog - WWJD for Mother's Day?

Mother's Day arrives each year draped in pastel colors, fragrant bouquets, and sentimental greeting cards. We gather for Sunday brunches, post heartfelt tributes on social media, and celebrate the women who brought us into this world. It's a day dedicated to honoring maternal love, sacrifice,...

Recent Supreme Court Ruling

We find ourselves at a crossroads in our nation’s story—a moment that weighs heavy on my heart, yet stirs up a holy determination within me. The Supreme Court’s recent move to weaken the Voting Rights Act is more than a legal decision; it is a blow to the soul of our democracy. This is not just a change in law, but a wound to the promise of equal voice and shared dignity for all.

The right to vote is not just a privilege—it is sacred ground, especially in the Black community. Our ancestors bled, marched, and prayed for this right. The Voting Rights Act is living proof of what happens when faith, courage, and unity rise up against injustice. But let’s tell the truth: the forces that tried to keep us silent have not vanished. They have simply changed their masks. The struggle to be heard, to be counted, and to be seen continues, as new tactics of suppression and exclusion emerge in our time.

As people of faith, we cannot sit on the sidelines or shrug our shoulders. This is bigger than politics—this is about justice, about whether every child of God gets to stand tall and speak their truth. When the right to vote is threatened, the very ground beneath our feet trembles. Our calling is clear: to defend the dignity and voice of every person made in God’s image.
