A Prayer for Bend, Oregon
Lord, our hearts ache for Bend. We bring You our grief over lives taken, children harmed, and a community forever changed.
Draw near to the families facing unimaginable loss. In the silence of empty rooms and the weight of unanswered questions, hold them in Your love.
Jesus, You wept with those who mourned. Be near to every child, parent, teacher, and first responder carrying the weight of what they witnessed. Bring healing to the injured and tender care to those overwhelmed by fear.
Strengthen those caring for this community. Help Your Church show up with compassion, practical help, and a willingness to stay through the long journey of grief.
Lord, we cry out for an end to violence. Give us wisdom and courage to protect our children and become people who make peace.
When words fail, receive our tears as prayer. May Your kingdom come and Your will be done in Bend, as it is in heaven.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
As we respond, our first action is to grieve and lament before God. Here are four ways to begin:
1. Turn to God: “Lord, we come to You with broken hearts.”
2. Pour out your complaints: “We do not understand. We are angry, confused, and heartbroken. Receive the questions we struggle to put into words.”
3. Appeal to His character and ask for help: “You are compassionate and near to the brokenhearted. Comfort those who mourn, heal the wounded, and help us care for one another.”
4. Choose to trust in God: “Even in this pain, we choose to remember that You are good. Hold us when our faith feels fragile, and help us trust Your unfailing love.”
