"But if you search there, you will find the ETERNAL your God, if only you seek with all your heart and soul, when you are in distress because all these things have befallen you and, in the end, return to and obey the ETERNAL your God." (Deut. 4:29-30)

No place is beyond the possibility of return, of teshuvah. Even from places that feel distant, broken, or devoid of holiness, the path back remains open—if only we are willing to seek.

Our deepest freedom is the freedom to seek. Our greatest refuge is found in choosing.

These High Holidays, join Der Nister on a journey of teshuvah, of dialogue with the Divine and the sacred act of choosing.

Together, with your neighbors and friends Downtown, we will celebrate with traditional High Holiday services rooted in classic melodies, profound and heartfelt teachings, and poetry in English, Yiddish, and Hebrew. On Sunday, February 22nd, Der Nister will host a half-day meditation retreat by Cantor Kerith Spencer-Shapiro, which explores attunement as a contemplative practice—learning to listen for what is already stirring within and gently lifting awareness toward presence. Through guided meditation, gentle movement, chanting, silence, and mindful eating, we cultivate inner listening as a way of making space for what is most alive and essential.

Vegetarian lunch is included and will feature challah from Challahdad and tea from Tea by Zev.
