Breed Street Shul Project A cultural journey linking Los Angeles’ past, present & future and celebrating the diverse Boyle Heights experience.

The Breed Street Shul in the Boyle Heights neighborhood is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and is designated as a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument. The original wood frame 1915 building was recently rehabilitated for use as an arts, educational, and cultural center. The Byzantine Revival unreinforced 1923 building with beautiful stained glass and folk art murals has been stabilized.

A behind-the-scenes documentary exploring the legend of The Day the Clown Cried — comedy legend Jerry Lewis (1926-2017)’s infamous, never-released 1972 self-directed Holocaust drama. Featuring extensive unseen footage and interviews with Mel Brooks, Martin Scorsese, David Cross and Lewis, the documentary examines the film’s history, controversy, and lasting mystery and that haunted Lewis until the end of his life.

Q&A follows the film with Classic Hollywood experts: writer Glenn Kirschbaum and Stan Taffel, President of Cinecon
