More than 200 young people are signing up to learn about Jesus and prepare to receive their sacraments – and they need YOU!

Prayerfully consider volunteering as a Faith Formation catechist, assistant, or office helper beginning the week of September 13. Sessions are held on Sundays, Tuesdays, or Wednesdays, and fit almost any schedule.

Today, the Catholic Church celebrates the Memorial of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a feast instituted by Pope Pius XII in 1954 and observed today on August 22.

Mary’s queenship is rooted in her unique role in salvation history as the Mother of Jesus Christ, the King of the Universe. At the Annunciation, Mary freely gave her “yes” to God, becoming the Mother of the Savior. Because she is the Mother of Christ, she is also honored as Queen Mother, sharing in the glory of her Son’s kingdom.

Mary’s queenship is not about earthly power or authority. It is the queenship of a mother who leads her children to Christ. Throughout her life, Mary remained perfectly united to Jesus, from Bethlehem to Calvary and ultimately to her glorious Assumption into Heaven.

The Church teaches us to look to Mary not as a rival to Christ, but as the one who always points us toward Him. Her words at Cana remain her message to every Christian: “Do whatever he tells you.” (John 2:5)

As we honor Mary our Queen and Mother, may we ask her to intercede for us and lead us closer to her Son, Jesus Christ, our true King.

Mary, Queen of Heaven and Earth, pray for us.

☕🍩 Thank you to everyone who joined us for Coffee in the Plaza on Sunday, August 9!

Parishioners had the opportunity to meet representatives from 20 St. Hedwig ministries and discover the many ways to serve our parish community, including Autumnfest, Bible Study, Cursillo, Eucharistic and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Hospitality, Knights of Columbus, Lectors, Legion of Mary, Life in the Spirit Prayer Group, Linens, Little Saints Playgroup, Middle School, Music, Prayer Network, Respect Life, St. Francis Guild, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Spiritual Book Club, That Man Is You!, and Young Adults.

A special thank-you to the Donut Ministry, led by Sue Goldberg of the St. Francis Guild, for providing coffee and donuts for this special gathering! ☕🍩

Today, August 15, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, one of the great Marian feasts of the Catholic Church.

At the end of her earthly life, Mary was assumed body and soul into the glory of Heaven. Unlike Christ, who ascended into Heaven by His own divine power, Mary was assumed by the power of God. Her Assumption is a beautiful sign of the destiny that awaits those who faithfully follow Christ: the resurrection and glorification of the whole person, body and soul.

The belief in Mary's Assumption is rooted in the ancient faith and tradition of the Church. From the earliest centuries, Christians honored Mary in a special way as the Mother of God and reflected upon the mystery of her entrance into heavenly glory. The feast of the Dormition, or "falling asleep," of Mary was celebrated in the East as early as the sixth century and eventually spread throughout the Christian world.

On November 1, 1950, Pope Pius XII solemnly defined the Assumption as a dogma of the Catholic faith in Munificentissimus Deus: “The Immaculate Mother of God, the ever-Virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory.”

Mary's Assumption reminds us that Heaven is our true destination. She is the first disciple of Christ and a living sign of the hope we have in the Resurrection. In her, we see the fulfillment of God's promise and a glimpse of the glory that awaits those who remain faithful to Him.

As we celebrate this beautiful feast, may we turn to Mary with confidence and ask for her prayers.
