However this obstacle was finally overcome with generous donations from members, citizens of Hazen, Carlisle, Little Rock and elsewhere. Bransford offered some of her jewels as collateral so that construction could be completed. Nancy Stout, Mrs. C.B. Harris, Mrs. Minnie Bryant, Mr.

In the Lonoke church she was known as "Mother Bransford". As part of her legacy to the church she taught this birthday verse:

Many happy returns of the day of thy birth,
May sunshine and gladness be given,
And may the dear Father prepare you on earth
For a beautiful birthday in heaven.

Whenever someone was celebrating a birthday in the congregation we would recite that verse to them. Today the tradition continues as my sister repeated the verse to me. I love to hear those words.

It makes us so sad to see the church continue to decay. While we would prefer to see the building our grandfather built be restored, it is beyond our ability to do so. After some anguishing discussion and decision making, we have decided that it is time to encourage those who might have an interest in the property to contact us. Message us here on this FB site and we will return your inquiry. May each of you be blessed in this Christmas season, and the new year.

A gleaming new First Christian Church featured on a Conery Drug Store picture post card. Photo taken in 1916 shortly after completion of the building. The sidewalk seems to belie the fact that Lonoke still had mostly dirt roads.

Taken in the mid-70's, Christmas celebration. Left to right, top row: Gertrude Williams, Daisy Holloway, Cecil Holloway. Second row: Judy King, Mrs. C.E. Schenebeck. Third row: Rev. Y.S. Beans, Louise Boesvert, Margaret Campbell. Fourth row: J.E. Tull, Missy Bransford. The children look like some of my cousins but I don't think I can name them. I was usually behind the camera in those days.

7/30/11: back from another week of exhausting work on my parents home. I found some of the church documents and old photos and as soon as time permits will get them scanned and posted.

This is my old church in Lonoke, Arkansas. Built in 1916 by my grandfather, Charles E. Hamm, FCC is now sadly in much disrepair. I'll be back on Lonoke for the next couple of weeks and will take some new photos, and get a copy of the church history to post on the info page.

FCC was added to the National Registry of Historic Places in 1997.
