A winter storm is now forecasted to impact parts of Texas this weekend (Saturday–Monday). Current projections suggest a high-impact mix of freezing rain, sleet, and possibly light snow, with ice accumulation being the primary concern. Even small amounts of ice can lead to dangerous travel conditions, power outages, and disruptions.

What to have ready before the storm arrives:

- Heat & warmth: extra blankets, warm layers, and one “warm room” to stay in if power is lost
- Light & power: flashlights, candles, fresh batteries, a fully charged phone, and a charged battery pack
- Food & water (at least 3 days): meals that don’t require much preparation, along with bottled water and a manual can opener
- Medicines & health: refill prescriptions now; keep a written list of medications and a basic first-aid kit
- Home safety: cover outdoor faucets, drip indoor faucets, and know where your main water shutoff valve is
- If you use a generator: operate it outdoors only—never in a garage or enclosed space

If the power goes out:

- Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible
- Use flashlights instead of candles (if possible)
- Check on neighbors if you’re able, especially those who live alone or may need assistance
