In 1 Corinthians 15:2, the language Paul uses suggests a salvation that is ongoing. This does not mean their salvation was incomplete. As Pastor Jeff pointes out it means that their salvation, and ours, becomes even more rich and full the longer we "hold firmly" to it.

Paul felt the need to remind Corinthian believers of the gospel they had received and on which they had taken their stand. (1 Cor. 15:1-2) Why would this reminder be necessary? Today Pastor Jeff urges us not to add to or take away from the simplicity and power of the gospel that saves and transforms us.

The Bible describes us as "God's field" (1 Corinthians 3:9) Our lives are the place God seeks to grow things that will accomplish His purposes and draw others to Him. That raises a question - What is the condition of the "soil" He has to work with?

“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:13) This wonderful truth leads immediately to a series of questions that makes one thing unmistakably clear. For someone to first call upon Jesus, someone has to tell them about Him.

In Romans 10, Paul boldly declares, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” But the "call" to which he is refering isn't just saying words or phrases. As Pastor Jeff reminds us, it's really about an attitude of the heart.

"Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise..." (Hebrews 13:15) That sounds disingenuine or even impossible, until we remember the basis for this teaching: "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever."

The author of Hebrews reminds his readers, "We do not have an enduring city..." (Heb. 13:14a) It's easy to live as if things will go on forever. But they won't. So how can our lives have hope, purpose and meaning today? "We are looking for the city that is to come." (Heb. 13:14b)

Hebrews 13:12 urges us to go to Jesus "outside the camp." Original readers would have found this provocative. No one ventured outside the camp - away from the safety and support of the community. It's a reminder that those who follow Jesus are to form a new community based on His rule, His reign and His promise.
