You can leave Egypt physically. But Egypt can remain in your thinking.

Or, as we might put it: you can take a person out of Egypt—but not always Egypt out of the person.
After the sin of Golden Calf Moses does something remarkable. Instead of asking only for forgiveness, he asks for something more:
“Show me Your ways.” (Exodus 33:13)

In other words: help me understand. Moses is asking not only for the renewal of trust in his people, but for insight. And that moment reminds us that, in the Jewish tradition, liberation is deeply connected to one of the most fundamental Jewish values - learning. And learning is not possible without questioning—without the freedom to ask real questions.
On the night of the Seder, the entire ritual begins with a question:
“Why is this night different from all other nights?”

So in that spirit let me ask a question: How do we step outside our intellectual bubbles without abandoning our beliefs?

New episode of The Rabbi Mirski Show is out!
Episode 17: Judaism and Zionism.

Many people today treat Zionism as if it were a modern political invention from the 19th century. But what if I told you that the traditional Jewish Siddur – the prayer book we use every single day – is actually a 2,000-year-old Zionist document? Zion, understood as a physical land - Eretz Israel - is woven deeply into our daily prayers.

No heavy theology, just clear explanations, a few laughs, and a lot of truth. And if you’ve ever wondered whether Judaism could exist without the hope of returning to Zion… this episode is exactly what you need.
