Happy Thursday, (yes, this is on other pages)
This is Pastor Nathan -

Today, May 7th, is the National Day of Prayer.
It seems odd that we need a "national day" to remind us to pray. Prayer is an essential part of our faith life.

The psalmist illustrates this in the Psalms through morning, afternoon, and evening prayers. (Psalm 4,5, 55 (just to name a few)). This is why Jesus taught the disciples to pray (Matthew 6:9-13; Luke 11:1-13; Luke 18:9-14; and many other gospel verses). Paul reminds us to pray without ceasing. (1 Thessalonians 5:17) and affirms the prayers of the people have power (James 5:13-16).

As Methodists, we are committed to prayer as part of our vows to one another and to the church. (In general, this should be all denominational vows) It's fundamental for us to live a daily Christian life of prayer. There would be no need for a "national day" when we live this life daily.

However, this does not mean that when others pray, we should refuse to pray with them. For that reason, I encourage you to take time today in prayer. Pray for your family and friends, our community, our school district, the city council, city employees, the school board, our students, our school district employees (There is ALOT), our county and its leaders, the state and its leaders, the nation and its leaders, the world, and most importantly, the Kingdom of God.

We pray that through our faithful and earnest seeking of the Lord, the grace and love of Christ may permeate our hearts and lives, and that we, and all those for whom we pray, may be drawn closer to God and made righteous before Him.

May the Lord be glorified in our prayers today and every day. Amen.
Grace and peace, Pastor Nathan
