Worshipping Like the Wise Men
Scripture: Matthew 2:11 (NKJV)
“And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.”

What True Worship Looks Like
The Wise Men show us that worship is more than a song—it’s a response of the heart.
⸻
1. They Came With Intention
The Wise Men traveled a long distance to find Jesus.
They didn’t stumble into worship—they pursued Him.
Youth Application:
Worship starts when we intentionally make time for Jesus, even when it costs us comfort, sleep, or convenience.
Worship is choosing Jesus on purpose.
⸻
2. They Humbled Themselves
They fell down before Him. These were respected, educated men—yet they bowed before a child.
Youth Application:
True worship requires humility. We lay down pride, distractions, and self-importance.
You can’t worship fully if you’re still trying to be in control.
⸻
3. They Recognized Who He Was
They didn’t treat Jesus like an ordinary baby. They recognized Him as King.
Youth Application:
When we worship, we’re declaring:
“Jesus, You are Lord over my life.”
⸻
4. They Gave Their Best
They offered gold, frankincense, and myrrh—valuable and meaningful gifts.
• Gold – Jesus the King
• Frankincense – Jesus the High Priest
• Myrrh – Jesus the Savior who would suffer
Youth Application:
Worship means giving God our best—our time, obedience, attention, and heart.
Worship isn’t about what we feel; it’s about what we give.
⸻
5. They Left Changed
The Wise Men didn’t return the same way they came (Matthew 2:12).
Youth Application:
Real worship always changes us.
If we truly encounter Jesus, our direction shifts.
⸻
Discussion Questions (Youth-Friendly)
1. What might God be asking you to lay down in worship?
2. What does “bringing your best” to God look like in your life?
3. How has encountering Jesus changed your direction?
⸻
Closing Prayer
“Jesus, like the Wise Men, we come to worship You—not empty-handed, but with open hearts. Help us to seek You intentionally, bow humbly, and offer our best. Change us as we encounter You. Amen.”
