My dear Trinity Methodist Church Family and Friends, ๐๏ธ
This week, Kathy, Clarice, Esther, and I are attending our Annual Conference. We will be back Friday late afternoon. And I want to tell you something that happened there.
The theme of this year's conference is one word: "Multiply."
At first, I thought I knew what that word meant. More people. More programs. More numbers. But the more I sat with it, the more I realized I might have been looking at it all wrong.
So, I changed my sermon title. If you look at my June newsletter article, you will see a different title โSeeing What Jesus Seeโ. So, this Sunday, I am preaching something fresh, something the Lord has been pressing into my heart during these days at conference.
The message is titled โFrom Compassion to Multiplication,โ based on Matthew 9:35โ38.
Here is what I have been thinking about. Years ago, someone said something to me that I have never forgotten. It was simple. It was about a garden. But it changed how I understand the way God's Kingdom grows.
I will tell you the whole story on Sunday.
Jesus looked at the crowds and did not see a problem. He saw a harvest. And He did not say, โThe harvest is too big.โ He said, โThe harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few.โ
That is still true today. So here is the question I have been wrestling with, and I will bring it to you on Sunday:
Am I just an attender? Or am I a laborer?
Because attenders watch. Laborers work. Attenders receive. Laborers invest. Attenders ask, โWhat can the church do for me?โ Laborers ask, โHow can God use me?โ
