What Exactly Is a Soul?
It sounds like a simple question. But how we answer it affects how we understand death, resurrection, and our Christian hope.
Most of us already have an idea of what the word “soul” means. We hear it in sermons, songs, movies, conversations, and expressions like “saving a soul” or “an immortal soul.”

But this Sunday, we’re going to set those assumptions aside for a moment and ask a more basic question:

What does the Bible itself mean when it talks about a soul?

We’ll begin in Genesis and follow the biblical story through life, death, the Bible’s repeated picture of death as sleep, and finally resurrection.

Along the way, we’ll ask whether some ideas we commonly associate with the soul actually come from Scripture—or whether we may have inherited assumptions without ever examining them closely.

This Sunday, Dennis Thorfeldt continues our journey through the Beatitudes with Jesus’ surprising words in Matthew 5:4: “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”

At first, blessed and mourning hardly seem to belong in the same sentence. How can sorrow possibly lead to blessing? What kind of mourning was Jesus talking about—and what does His promise of comfort mean for us today?

Join us this Sunday as we explore this powerful promise and discover the hope Jesus offers in the midst of sorrow.

What does it really mean for prayer to “work”? In Acts 13, the believers at Antioch weren’t gathered first to ask God for something—they were **ministering to the Lord**. And while they gave Him their attention, worship, and availability, the Holy Spirit spoke and sent them into something bigger than they could have planned on their own. Join **Andy Weeks** as he explores the difference between doing things *for* God and first being present *with* God—and how prayer that truly works makes us available to hear Him and willing to obey when He calls.
