The Blessed Sunnah of Fasting on ‘Āshūrā

The day of ‘Āshūrā is one of the most virtuous days to fast. Ibn ‘Abbās (Radiyallāhu ‘anhumā) reported that he did not see Rasulullah (SAW) eagerly await the fast of any virtuous day more than the day of ‘Āshūrā.

This year, the 9th, 10th, and 11th of Muharram correspond to:

📅 Wednesday, June 24
9th of Muharram

📅 Thursday, June 25
10th of Muharram | ‘Āshūrā

📅 Friday, June 26
11th of Muharram

Rasulullah (SAW) encouraged fasting on the day of ‘Āshūrā, along with one day before or one day after.

May Allah (SWT) allow us to benefit from these blessed days and increase us in worship, sincerity, and closeness to Him.

Join us at DarusSalam for a special ‘Āshūrā Program, Du‘ā & Dhikr on Wednesday, June 24 after Maghrib.

We’ve talked about youth, health, wealth, and free time. But all of them depend on one greater blessing: life itself.

This episode reflects on the certainty of death, the value of the life we still have, and the urgency of turning back to Allah (SWT) before the opportunity is gone.

Many people assume they will become more serious about their faith when life becomes less busy. But life rarely works that way.

In Episode 7 of A New Beginning, Qari Yusuf Iyoob reflects on the value of free time and the danger of waiting for the “perfect time” to return to Allah.

The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said:

اغْتَنِمْ خَمْسًا قَبْلَ خَمْسٍ: فَرَاغَكَ قَبْلَ شُغْلِك
“Take advantage of five before five: your free time before your busyness.”

Free time is not empty. It is an opportunity, and once it passes, it does not return.

We live in a world that treats wealth as the ultimate destination. More money is often seen as more security, more freedom, and more happiness. But Islam teaches us that wealth is not simply a blessing. It is also a test.

Allah (SWT) says:

_“And know that your wealth and your children are only a trial.”_ [8:28]

This episode reflects on the reality of wealth as a test, the accountability attached to it, and the need to use what Allah (SWT has given in ways that benefit both this life and the next.

Health is one of the easiest blessings to overlook because it feels normal, until it is gone.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

اغْتَنِمْ خَمْسًا قَبْلَ خَمْسٍ: صِحَّتَكَ قَبْلَ سَقَمِكَ
“Take advantage of five before five: your health before your sickness.”

Health is a trust from Allah (SWT). The question is whether we are using it in a way that brings us closer to Him.

Youth feels like it will last forever. But in reality, it is one of the greatest trusts Allah gives a person, and one that will be asked about specifically.

In Episode 4 of A New Beginning, Qari Yusuf Iyoob reflects on the value of youth, the responsibility that comes with it, and the opportunity to use it in obedience before it fades.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
شَبَابَكَ قَبْلَ هَرَمِكَ
“Your youth before your old age.”

Youth is not just a stage of life. It is a trust, and a chance to secure what will matter forever.

A new year often makes people think about goals and plans. But before thinking about where we want to go, we must reflect honestly on where we are right now.

In Episode 3 of A New Beginning, Qari Yusuf Iyoob reflects on self-accountability and the importance of taking account before we are taken to account.

Allah (SWT) says:

“O you who believe, fear Allah. And let every soul look to what it has sent forward for tomorrow.” (59:18)

A new year should not only bring plans. It should also bring honesty, Tawbah, and change.

A New Beginning: Taking Account | Episode 3 | Qari Yusuf Iyoob | Muharram 2026 | 2 minute Reminder

06/18/2026

Why do so many people still feel empty, even when they have comfort, success, and everything they thought would make them happy? Real peace is not found in pleasing the body alone. It is found in nourishing the soul, and that begins with our relationship with Allah (SWT).

This episode reflects on the importance of building our relationship with Allah (SWT) and strengthening it through Du‘a, Qur’an, and Salah.

A New Beginning | Episode 2 | Qari Yusuf Iyoob | Muharram 2026 | 3 minute Reminder

06/16/2026

As we enter a new Islamic year, we are reminded that this is more than a change in date. It is a moment to reflect, reset, and return to Allah (SWT).

The Islamic New Year begins with the legacy of Hijrah, a journey of sacrifice, trust, and leaving behind what stands between us and Allah. In this episode, we reflect on the meaning of Hijrah and the question every believer should ask at the start of this year: What am I willing to leave for the sake of Allah?

06/15/2026

Alhamdulillah, we are entering a new Islamic year, 1448 Hijri.

A new year for a believer is not just a date change. It is an opportunity to reflect, renew intention, and begin again with purpose.

Allah (SWT) says:
“If you are grateful, I will surely increase you.” (14:7)

This Muharram, DarusSalam Foundation presents A New Beginning, a new 10-day series with Qari Yusuf Iyoob.

Join us as we reflect on how to start this year strong and make these blessed first days of Muharram count.
