Session 1: Commended
1 Thessalonians 1:1-10

Who has influenced you the most in your life? Paul, Silas, and Timothy greatly influenced the Thessalonians. Join us as we begin our study of their letters to the church!

This week we begin our study of Paul’s Letters to the Thessalonians. In 1 and 2 Thessalonians, we are introduced to a trio of missionaries—Paul and his coworkers, Timothy and Silas. Their concern for the church is evident in their encouragement of the believers in Thessalonica. I hope you’ll join us as we begin our study of these two books and the lessons that are applicable for us today!
Read 1 Thessalonians 1:1-10 in your Bible and the comments for session 1 in your Explore the Bible Personal Study Guide. Make a list of individuals or groups of people found in this passage. What words would you use to describe the relationship between the individuals and groups on your list?

I was at Lowe's today and it really caused me to think. I noticed this very nice couple, yes there were older in years but still very able to move around freely. They were a mixed couple, now before you stop reading please stay with me through this. There was a day, when I was younger, that being a mixed couple was very risky. It was not the excepted norm of the time, much sacrifice was decided before you entered into that relationship.
They also were smoking, now smoking is a little less accepted than it once was in at least my life time, yet still very risky for your health, regardless of the acceptance. They seemed to enjoy their time smoking but before they got back in the car the ci******es were put out so that they didn't leave any smell in the car. This would lower the value of the car and cost them, it was far too much of a sacrifice, but the smoking didn't really feel like it was a sacrifice to them. Yes, many people talk about the ills of smoking to your lungs and how it increases your risk of death. But they seemed fine, as I said they were move around freely, with little issue.
I notice one thing about each, they were wearing mask. Well, they had them on top of their heads while they were smoking. The risk of getting Covid-19 was far to great so the sacrifice of wearing a mask was well worth the frustration of removing it in order to smoke the ci******es.
I gave you that picture not to poke fun at this couple of make light of the virus we are facing but to bring to light a greater issue that we are facing. People do not see SIN has a risk, they seem to be enjoying their life and moving around freely. There are a few remarks made here and there to warn them of the risk of sin. Adam and Eve were told that they would die if they sinned. Still today if we do not die to self, we will die.
Jesus understood the risk. He understood it so well that he died a terrible death so that we do not need to. His Grace is so wonderful and it is given to anyone who believes. Do they understand the risk, the need to sacrifice there own lives in order to walk with Jesus?

Do you understand the Risk of a life without Christ. You see no mask or gloves are needed, He is the only PPE we need.
