ROL: Full choir today. New organ from Baptist Church was in full throat today with additional speakers installed. Organ is just off to right of picture. Base is impressive and have to make sure we don't shake the plaster off the walls.

Sept 11:
First and foremost it is our Son's Matt's Birthday. A time for celebration.

However:
Something on your prayer list. Previously, I had flown the United flights that were hijacked and crashed on 9-11-2001. In that morning, I was in Baltimore with a United 767. Several days after crashes, my jet and flight Attendants were first flight in Domestic airspace with the Secretary of Transportation going to Chicago. United Airlines management wanted management pilots to fly the flight so I spent another few days in Baltimore (6 total instead of overnight). I was the senior airline person in the hotel and coordinated for the several hundred that were staying there. Downtown Baltimore shut down with no food, etc as they also had a World Trade Center building. Had maids wash my underwear.
Communication was mostly through watching TV scroll as to what was happening.
Watershed day for Airlines as most went bankrupt or closed in the following years. April 2004 Bankruptcy and our son, Tim had first seizure. Stressful time. Longterm result for me was loss of pension and moving to Indiana.
9-11 is a big deal for me and my family. You may blow it off as Patriot's Day. Not me,
United Airlines Captain, Mike Harbeck

Enjoy Labor Day weekend. My labor today is to preach at River of Life Christian Church. Remember that we are not saved by Works (labor) but by Faith alone. We labor to God to demonstrate our Faith.

Enough is enough. Trying to use landline for water aerobics, grief care, and Chosen classes.

Listened to Pastor Ben from Fishers UMC give message yesterday. He mentioned that Habakkuk was his favorite Book of the Bible. It is only 5 pages long but I am glad I had David Jeremiah's NKJ Study Bible to unpack the verses. Those verses describe the why and when questions we all have. The answers may not be what we want to hear. In chapter 1, God predicts the using of Babylon to discipline the Jews in Judah. He then foretells of destroying Babylon for all its evil actions. (All of this comes true as reported in other non-Biblical sources) Habakkuk accepts these answers and continues to praise God just like JOB did in earlier times. Hab 2:4 inspired Paul to write Rom 1:17 which opened Martin Luther eyes to start the Protestant Reformation. Amazing how it all fits together.
Habakkuk, the prophet, directs me to reflect on my life with chasing the "why" questions and where our Country is headed. Thank you Pastor Ben for getting me to reread this Bible Book.

I tried to forward a summary of changes that occurred at the recent General Conference for UMC but was unsuccessful. Some of the changes such as removal of support to Israel is interesting. As expected, all the forecast changes regarding LGBTQ+ rights took place. Also, support for abortion. There is a regional concept where Africa, Asia, and USA can set their own doctrine. It is not well defined in what I read. The 2019 provisions for disaffiliation are no longer allowed. In general, UMC is becoming very progressive.
I am involved with our open house for RHWC Ministries today. The new building is mostly complete and the non-traditional medical therapies are already being conducted. My ministry portion is delayed for personal reasons.
Blessings, Mike Harbeck

Jim & Muriel McWhorter Turner were lifelong members of Wheatland Avenue Church. Jim attended until he passed, and Muriel attended until her health dictated otherwise. They contributed unselfishly both of their time AND their talents for years, and years, AND YEARS.

One of the things they purchased was this Noah's Ark set. When Wheatland Church had to close, long-time member Suzy Hatten could not BEAR to see Noah's Ark get lost in the shuffle, so she took it home to be dealt with later.

But then, "the King had one more move for Wheatland" and the precious congregation of River of Life Church took over and have cared for the building and the people (both Wheatland and River of Life) with tender, loving care.

The pastor, Cary Greene, called Suzy one day to chat and she mentioned that she'd like to bring Noah's Ark back to Wheatland/River of Life. He encouraged her to do so - - - and the Ark is prominently displayed on a table at the back of the church. Just this morning, Julie Jones (member of ROL) made a special announcement, pointing out the significance of the Ark and why it had suddenly reappeared - she ended by saying "it's come back home" ~ ~ ~ sometimes things just work out - - - or as Pastor Cary likes to say, "it's not just coincidence, God worked it out"!

The change is slowly being made! River of Life Church (formerly at Mall Road), held their first permanent church service at the Wheatland Church location on Dec. 3rd, first Sunday of Advent.

That loving congregation has embraced being at Wheatland, installed new carpeting, hung pictures and various things to make it look inviting, fixed the sound system - - and on & on!

This week they changed the wording on the exterior sign, still need to change the part that says "Wheatland" - - but they'll get 'er done!

They are a very welcoming, warm group of people; they have a small choir, a lovely keyboard/electronic piano (as well as a regular piano) a pastor that delivers a soul-searching sermon each Sunday, a Bible-study class each week, and I've probably forgotten a few things ~ ~ ~ they'd love to have you visit sometime. Service is each Sunday at 10 AM, all are welcome!
