Congratulations to our family of the month for October!

Eric and Kate Bachmann are strong supporters of all the values held dear by our Catholic faith. They demonstrate their faith to their children and grandchildren daily in their work with the church and community. Recently, this living faith came to life as Eric, with strong support from his Kate and others in their family, took on the huge task of remodeling our convent in anticipation of our newly assigned Consecrated Sisters. Eric led the months-long effort to restore the entire convent - basement through attic and everything in between! He organized a volunteer force numbering in the dozens to perform the labor. The convent was turned into a "show place" and incredible living quarters as we welcomed our three Sisters in July - they now teach at our school and are a valuable, visible part of our parish. What a legacy! Thank you, Eric and Kate and family!

🌹 Happy Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary!

What a beautiful morning at St. John the Evangelist! After our school Mass, Father Jean-Luc led our elementary students outside to pray the Rosary together — young hearts lifted to Our Lady on her feast day. And of course, she is always leading us to be closer to her Son Jesus!

October is the Month of the Holy Rosary, and there's no better way to begin it than with the next generation praying together.

🛡️⚔️ What a Night to Remember at St. John the Evangelist! ⚔️🛡️

Last night, our parish family did something truly beautiful - a procession through the street, a Holy Mass, and a festival all in devotion to one of heaven's mightiest warriors! St. Michael the Archangel is the leader of the good angels in their profession of fidelity to God and their defense of His kingdom!

Following the procession and our Mass, we gathered together for our Third Annual Michaelmas Festival. Thanks to our incredible Knights of Columbus Council 2299 and our Ladies Auxiliary, who poured their hearts (and their culinary talents!) into feeding our community so well - your generosity and service are a true gift. 🎶 Also a heartfelt thank-you to Nick D'Andrea for keeping the energy going all night long — and an especially joyful shout-out to our elementary school students, led by the wonderful Sarah Woodruff, whose performance reminded every single one of us why we invest so deeply in our school community. These kids are the future of the faith, and they shone last night!

This is what it means to be a parish. Not just a building — but a people. A family. A community that prays together, processes together, and yes, celebrates together.
This feast is a day of immense historical significance in the Church and society at large, reflecting the high esteem in which the Church has always held this Archangel — and his singular role in the life and defense of God's people throughout the ages.

🌹⚔️ Today - September 15 - is the Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows ⚔️🌹

“Standing by the cross of Jesus was his mother…" — John 19:25

Today, the Church pauses to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary in her most profound act of love — standing in faithful love beside the Cross of her Son. Her sorrow is not without hope; it is united to Jesus' saving Passion, and her faithful presence at Calvary becomes a witness to a love that remains when fear, loss, and suffering seem to have taken everything away.

This feast falls on September 15, the day after the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross — and it is no accident. As we honor the Cross on the 14th, we then turn to Mary — the one who stood at the foot of the Cross, united in suffering with her Son.

The Seven Sorrows of Mary include the prophecy of Simeon, the flight into Egypt, the loss of the child Jesus in the Temple, the meeting of Jesus and Mary on the way to Calvary, the Crucifixion, the taking down of the body of Jesus from the Cross, and the burial of Jesus.

This devotion reminds us that we are not alone in our suffering — Mary, our spiritual mother, walks with us in every trial. How fitting that on this day, our parish family grows even richer with these holy women who have given their lives to her.
