Cultivating the Common Good

✝️ "The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” — Genesis 2:15

Chris spends his Saturday morning at the community plot, his fingers stained with the dark, rich compost of the earth. He views the garden not as a possession, but as a trust. Every seed planted is an act of stewardship, a small way of participating in God’s ongoing work of renewal. He breathes in the scent of rain-dampened soil, recognizing that we are all deeply interconnected with the land that sustains us.

As the heat of June settles over the valley, Emily finds herself seeking the shade of the old cedar. In the Presbyterian tradition, we remember that Sabbath is not merely a break from labor, but a holy resistance against the busyness of the world. By sitting still, Emily honors the Creator who deemed rest a necessary part of the rhythm of life. To stop is to acknowledge that the world continues to turn in God’s hands, even when our own hands are empty.
