Memory Verse: Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another. Ephesians 4:25.

Catechism: The Ten Commandments

Close of the Commandments

What does God say about all these Commandments?
He says: “I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers of the third and the fourth generation of those who hate Me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love Me, and keep My commandments.”

What does this Mean?
God threatens to punish all who break these commandments. Therefore, we should fear His wrath and not do anything against them. But He promises grace and every blessing to all wo keep these commandments. Therefore, we should also love and trust in Him and gladly do what He commands.

Catechism: The Ten Commandments
The Ninth Commandment
You shall not covet your neighbor’s house.
What does this mean?
We should fear and love God so that we do not scheme to get our neighbor’s inheritance or house, or get it in a way which only appears right, but help and be of service to him in keeping it.

To build ourselves up by our self-righteousness, we must push other people down. If we don’t murder them outright like Cain, then we sacrifice them in our hearts like the Pharisee. Christian humility looks like the tax collector. Though he is definitely a sinner and of no reputation, God hears his prayer “God, be merciful to me, a sinner."

"Jesus predicts the destruction of Jerusalem for this reason – “you did not know the time of your visitation.” Though Jerusalem means peace, the Jews there did not know the things which make for peace. They refused to know Jesus. Jesus had entered into Jerusalem that Palm Sunday, and the leaders of the Jews did not celebrate but told Jesus to rebuke His disciples. They could not stand Jesus being called the Son of David, the King."
