Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, you will know my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” — John 14:5-7

On Sunday we heard the words of John 14 — Jesus tells his anxious disciples that he is the way, the truth, and the life. These words have brought simultaneous comfort and division throughout the centuries.

As modern Christians we have a choice about how to understand Jesus’ teaching.

Today an ensemble of Holy Trinity members visited Lois Marvel in her assisted living facility and sang carols for her as well other residents who gathered around to listen.

We are so grateful for the thoughtfulness of our members and staff. They made the season brighter for Lois and her fellow residents.

As we move through this Advent season, we are exploring how fear shows up in the stories of the biblical characters as they await the birth of the Messiah and the coming reign of Christ.

Despite our fear, we are still called forward to do the work of making God’s love real for a weary world as it awaits to rejoice over the revelation of God’s kingdom on earth.
