Before leaving, Pastor Patti left us with a final blessing:

May the peace of God settle over you like the big Montana sky.

May the love of God be as wide and as beautiful as the Paradise Valley.

May the joy of the Lord lift you up to the summits of our mountains.

May the Spirit of God be always blowing through you like the winds of Livingston.

I will forever hold you in my heart. You are a part of me now, and I hope I am a part of you.

Let us go our separate ways in grace, always linked by the love of God.

Our prayer in response to the flood we have experienced here in Livingston and the Paradise Valley this week:

Bellyaching to the Lord After a Flood
O God, our Wise One,
You are powerful peace.
You are a God who rebuilds, restores, and redeems.
You are incarnate, ever present in every place.

Why, O Lord, when we have experienced so much drought are we now deluged with water?
And why is that flood water so muddy? Why can’t it be clear water that cleans as it floods?
Water, which is life-giving in so many ways, now betrays us as it destroys.
So much destruction, O Lord.
The Yellowstone River, provides recreation for fishermen,
livelihood for many,
ecosystem for fish and fauna,
beauty and life.
The Yellowstone River overflows its banks with unimaginable strength and power,
It even carried a house away!
Destroying roads and forever changing the landscape.
Cutting off Gardiner,
closing the National Park.
So much destruction Lord!
Everything the water touched is impacted,
no small corner in a flooded home is spared.
Nothing can escape flood water, mud and silt stick to everything.
So much destruction Lord!

We need you, Lord! Fix it!!
O God of Restoration,
we need your strength,
to keep moving forward
little step by little step.
We need your wisdom,
to rebuild stronger and better.
Show us the way.
Teach us Lord. Give us perspective to step back and see,
to examine how we interact with nature.
Assist us in discovering how to live,
so that everything can thrive and flourish.
Help!

We trust that this too shall pass.
That we will emerge from the fog that overwhelms us now.
That the grief will be eased as we find new footing.
We have confidence in your presence
and in your power.
We know that you are with us
Remind us
Assure us
that you are here every moment of every day.

We praise you, O God of Restoration.
We are grateful no lives were lost, no serious injuries sustained.
We are lifted up by all the love, kindness, and compassion we see,
People pulling together to help one another, whether friend or stranger.
We praise you O Lord, our God.
O Wise one, Source of healing, and peace, and life.
Great is your faithfulness, O Lord.

Rev. Fred and Mary Amborn had their entire house flooded and need to pack up their house in the next few days before the restoration company can come in and start working. There is a packing session today from 8:30a-12:00p. Help is really needed. Floors are dry but a bit dusty. The basement is still wet.
Gloves, boxes, newspapers, buckets and rags to wipe things off with, are needed. The lower kitchen cupboards need to be emptied but they don't look like they are full of mud. Some things will be put in long term storage, other boxes and stuff will go to the Holbrook Parsonage late Saturday/Sunday. They will be staying in the Holbrook Parsonage after Pastor Patti leaves. Some of their things are also being stored in the Grace UMC garage.

If you can't help with packing, then stop by with some drinks and sandwiches.

If you have a pick-up truck or a flatbed trailer that you can loan for the day, or on Sunday, that would be helpful, too.

Spread the word and come for a while and help pack! Corner of 89 S. and Shamrock Lane, yellow house on the left (south side).

Call me if you have questions. 406-223-0200. Please copy and paste this email to the rest of your congregations and friends, too.

Thank you everyone who participated in the Park Painting and to those who brought food on a chilly but sunny Sunday. There were about 20 people and we did make a huge difference! The City Parks and Recreation and the City Utilities department sent out a social media shout out, too. They were very happy with all the progress. Thanks also to Ace Hardware for donating the multiple gallons of paint.

Thanks to all who helped paint on Sunday!

Devotion by Pastor Patti:
Today Psalm 71 has captured my attention. The author reflects on the presence of God through his or her whole life. V. 17-18: “Since my youth, O God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds. Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, O God, till I declare your power to the next generation.” God is present every day of our lives offering us love and guidance and also inviting us to service and action. The ways in which we receive and the ways in which we give change in different seasons of our lives, but the call to do both remains the same. I remember when I was a youth talking with a woman who was in her 80’s. She shared with me enthusiastically what she had learned reading the bible that morning. I remember realizing in that moment that this journey of faith is a lifelong endeavor. Her testimony to me that day had a lasting impact. May we all find ways to receive God’s love each day. And may we be intentional about declaring God’s power to the next generation in word and deed.
