This Wednesday at 6pm, we’ll be starting a Bible study on the book of Revelation. We’ll be starting out in our sanctuary, due to our rummage sale, but I should give a warning: If you’re looking for end times speculation or wanting to read the Bible in light of today’s headlines then this class probably isn’t for you.
Instead, this class will be about reading Revelation as the early church understood it, from the church’s first theologian, Origen (185-253), to the father of the Western Church, Augustine (354-430), as a symbolic vision meant to comfort a persecuted Church, portray the ongoing battle between Satan and the Church while we await Christ’s return, and remind us of the blessed hope that one day Christ will return to judge the living and the dead, rewarding the faithful, punishing the wicked, and inaugurating the New Creation.
