⛪✨ 125 YEARS AND COUNTING: The History of Our Church and Cemetery! ✨⛪

Ever wonder why you sometimes hear 1896 and other times 1899 when it comes to the history of St. Aloysius Church here in Livingston Manor? Here is the story behind our roots—and our cemetery!

🪵 1896: Local businessman A.P. DuBois generously donated the land, and the physical church building structure was constructed.

⛪ 1899: The parish structure was officially organized, and the church fully opened its doors to the public for regular services.

🪦 1901: Recognizing the need to care for our parish families in both life and death, the church officially acquired the land for Saint Aloysius Cemetery just two years after opening!Because our active spiritual community and official public operations began in 1899, we measure our parish milestones from that year—making our official 125th Anniversary!

🎉From our beautiful church building to the sacred, peaceful grounds of our cemetery where our first resident priest, Father Francis Mary Verdan, and generations of loved ones rest, St. Aloysius has been the heart of faith and memory in Livingston Manor.

Thank you to every parishioner, past and present, who has dedicated their time, hearts, and prayers to making St. Aloysius such a special place to call home. Here’s to the next chapter of serving God and our neighbors together! 🙏❤️

🤯 Mind-Blowing Catholic History Fact: Catholics don’t celebrate birthdays.
Well, at least not the birthdays of Saints! 🎂❌
If you look at the Catholic calendar, almost every "Feast Day" for a saint actually marks the day they died, not the day they were born. The Church calls this their dies natalis—their "Heavenly Birthday"—marking the exact day they were born into eternal life.
In fact, out of thousands of saints in history, the Catholic Church only celebrates the actual physical birthday of three people:
1️⃣ Jesus (Christmas - Dec 25)
2️⃣ The Virgin Mary (Sept 8)
3️⃣ John the Baptist (June 24)
Everyone else gets celebrated on their death day. Talk about a completely different way to look at life and legacy!

As we head into Memorial Day weekend, let us pause to honor and remember all the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

☘️ The Official Naming of St. Patrick’s

May 24, 1809: Exactly 217 years ago this week, the Board of Lay Trustees held a pivotal meeting in the vestry of St. Peter's Church in Lower Manhattan. During this gathering, they passed a series of resolutions—the most famous being the official decision to name their upcoming cathedral in honor of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. This original building is known today as The Basilica of St. Patrick's Old Cathedral.
