Mass on Ash Wednesday, February 18th:....St. Charles - 9:30 am....St. Sebastian - 6:00 pm
(Contrary to popular belief, Ash Wednesday is not a Holy Day of Obligation. Even though we are not required to attend Mass, Ash Wednesday is a wonderful opportunity to rearrange our priorities and feed our soul before one of the most important seasons of the entire year.)

Fasting and Abstinence:....The Church requires all Catholics from ages 14-59 to FAST on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. As long as you are in good health, this means that you should only eat one full meal, plus two smaller meals that do not equal a full meal.
....Another powerful invitation to grow in our spiritual life is ABSTAINING FROM MEAT. Catholics age 14 and older do not eat meat on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays during Lent, including Good Friday.
....This simple Ash Wednesday prayer invites us to make ourselves more fully available to God and all the wonderful ways he wants to collaborate with us during the Lenten Season:

"God of goodness and mercy,

Hear my prayer as I begin this Lenten journey with you. Let me be honest with myself as I look into my heart and soul, noticing the times I turn away from you. Guide me as I humbly seek to repent and return to your love. May humility guide my efforts to be reconciled with you and live forever in your abundant grace. Transform me this Lent, heavenly Father. Give me the strength to make myself 100% available to you every day as I prepare for Easter.

Amen."

Pope Leo XIV, formerly Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, has been elected to shepherd the universal Church. The announcement of "Habemus Papam!" from the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica echoes in our hearts today as a powerful reminder of the Holy Spirit's guidance.

"The world needs Christ’s light. Humanity needs Him to be the bridge so that God and His love can reach us. " -Pope Leo XIV

Pray for our new Pope as he begins his sacred ministry as our Holy Father.
