We had a special visit after church today that left our hallway lined with huge bags of food!

Thank you, neighbors! This makes a huge difference in this month’s shopping budget….and boy, do we need this help!

If you aren’t able to bring us goods, but could donate for us to shop for them here, we would greatly appreciate your gift! Some of our current needs are:
- formula
- new mattresses for baby cribs ($40 each)
- disposable diapers (it’s rainy season and our nappies aren’t drying fast enough! and they don’t fit some of our tiniest babies too well.)
- 2 new toddler tables ($80 each)
- high chair replacement and repairs

Before a child can attach, they learn whether adults are safe. They need time to build trust.

This is why their time at HCO is important - they're doing real life work that will impact the trajectory of their futures. Our aunties play a vital role in this. They give selflessly, love unconditionally and show up consistently. This gives our babies the security they need to learn how to attach.

And then comes family. Once a child's nervous system is relaxed enough to learn to trust again, they can begin building bonds which will be their foundation with their family.

We are thankful for an amazing staff who understand the value of this process and the vital role they play in our babies' lives.

And we are thankful to you, those who support HCO and help make all of this possible!

There are stories behind the babies who come to us that most of us will never fully understand.

For many people, it’s easy to respond with judgment when we see a baby abandoned.
“How could a mother give away her baby?”

But the reality is that poverty, trauma, violence, and desperation can push people into impossible situations.

Sometimes surrender comes through neglect or abandonment.
Sometimes it comes through a mother making an unbearable decision because she believes she cannot survive caring for another child.

This baby is not unwanted.
She is vulnerable.

And now, she has the opportunity for safety, stability, and the possibility of family.

That’s why we do what we do.
Not to condemn families in crisis —
but to step into the gap when desperation leaves no good options.

One of the most important parts of the day at HCO is when aunties and uncles are gathered together in God’s Word.

We invest in the hearts of the people doing the caring because we believe that caring for children well starts with being rooted ourselves.

In two weeks, we’ll be traveling back to Kenya and hope to take Bible study workbooks for our staff with us. Our goal is to provide two studies each for 25 women and 8 men through The Daily Grace Co. for them to work through for the next year.

The studies range from $9–14 each, and every book represents encouragement, discipleship, and someone being poured into while they spend their days pouring into others.

If you’d like to help provide a study workbook for an auntie or uncle, we’d love for you to be part of it. For all the books for their next one year of Bible study, our goal is $750.

Because investing in caregivers matters too.

It’s a common assumption, especially when it comes to babies, that early experiences don’t really matter because they won’t remember them.

But memory isn’t just about what we can remember and recall.

Long before a child can form words or tell a story, their brain and body are learning. They are learning what to expect from the world. They are learning whether they are safe or not. They are learning whether their needs will be met.

These early experiences shape attachment, trust, and development in lasting ways. It’s one of the reasons consistent, responsive care is so important in the work we do at HCO.

We shared more in this article about why this idea is a myth, and what actually matters in those earliest months.
