Poet's Rest

Poet's Rest Intigration of Faith, for Biblical, and practical, creative work. Synonyms: burgeoning, flourishing, We provide room, furniture & utilities.

POET'S REST is an intentional community living experience, somewhat like Francis Schaeffer's L'Brie in Switzerland, or like an Israeli Kibbutz, or possibly an Italian apartment villa. We believe in living in community in order to flesh out what the body of Christ is to be. Although we love to discuss topics of every nature, we feel that it is better to live honestly and rub shoulders to become mor

e like Christ than to always be right theologically. There are private study areas for artists, researchers, students, writers, musicians, missionaries, as well as community rooms for meetings, making music or watching shows. Dinner conversations around here can be compelling! Please contact us on the web.

This man's attitude and behavior puts an end to the belief that all the rich and famous have no idea what the rest of us have been through.

This is Keanu Reeves. He was abandoned by his father at 3 years old and grew up with 3 different stepfathers. He is dyslexic. His dream of becoming a hockey player was shattered by a serious accident. His daughter died at birth. His wife died in a car accident. His best friend, River Phoenix, died of an overdose. His sister battled leukemia. No bodyguards, no luxury houses. Keanu lives in an ordinary apartment and likes wandering around town and often seen riding a subway in NYC.
When he was filming the movie "The Lake House," he overheard the conversation of two costume assistants, one crying as he would lose his house if he did not pay $20,000 - On the same day, Keanu deposited the necessary amount in his bank account. In his career, he has donated large sums to hospitals includng $75 million of his earnings from
"The Matrix" to charities.
In 2010, on his birthday, Keanu walked into a bakery & bought a brioche with a single candle, ate it in front of the bakery, and offered coffee to people who stopped to talk to him.
In 1997 some paparazzi found him walking one morning in the company of a homeless man in Los Angeles, listening to him and sharing his life for a few hours.
In life, sometimes the ones most broken from inside are the ones most willing to help others. This man could buy everything, and instead every day he gets up and chooses one thing that cannot be bought: to be real.
Keanu Reeves❤️

Here's to Being Helpful. I love creative discussions where differing streams of thought can come together and offer ideas for practical engagement. Don't you? It's a breath of fresh air not to simply avoid the elephant in the room. God bless you.

Dr. Jennifer Carlson and Dr. Michael W. Austin will address the issue of gun violence and how Christians can be a bigger part of the solution at the Gospel Initiative’s “Compelling and Credible Witness: The Church and Gun Violence” at Denver Seminary on Friday, April 19.

MacArthur Fellow Dr. Carlson is a professor of sociology at Arizona State University, renowned gun violence expert, author, and speaker. Her acclaimed research delves into the intricacy of guns in American society, examining various facets including the experiences of gun violence survivors, the role of law enforcement in enforcing gun laws, and the dynamics within the gun retail industry.

Dr. Austin is the Foundation Professor of philosophy at Eastern Kentucky University, Bonhoeffer Senior Fellow of the Miller Center for Interreligious Learning and Leadership at Hebrew College, and president of the Evangelical Philosophical Society. His research is focused on ethics and spiritual formation, especially on the topic of the cultivation of Christian character. "In order for beauty to come from ashes, something has to burn." - Emily P. Freeman

Nature shows us that a seed must be broken and die before it can gain life, sprout, bloom, bear fruit, and new seeds. Jesus, the creator of this world designed it this way even knowing that He had to die in order to forgive sinners, resurrect, sprout the blooms of faith and bear good fruit in this world. The fruit would bear new seeds and multiply many more fruit for all eternity. I'm a seed. I'm a fruit. Are you?

Think of all those people who pass through your life seemingly just to irritate you as small detours. They can be life's diagnostic tests. They represent the readers of your lab results during a health check up. They have an important function in your life. They hold up a mirror to your ego, your speed traps, your self protection, anger, and your self sufficiency asking, "What is your response rooted in? Where is your offense coming from? Will you consider some remodeling in the shape of your tree of life?" Maybe these people deserve a moment. Maybe they need some grace or mercy...from you. Maybe you need to look them in the eye and say, "Thank You for the heads up." If we move our egos out of the way, we can practice a formidable virtue. It's meekness. How have you allowed these test indicators to reshape something in your character?
