Join us in prayer for those impacted by at least three tornadoes on Friday, March 6, in Branch, Cass and St. Joseph counties in Michigan. We pray especially for the families of the four people who lost their lives and for those who have lost their homes and livelihoods.

UMCOR is responding to this disaster through a solidarity grant to the Michigan Conference of The United Methodist Church, which will provide immediate relief to those in need, including Early Response Team deployment assistance, debris removal and the distribution of food and water.

How you can help:
🛐 Continue to pray for those impacted as they walk the long road to recovery.

This week, we light the Candle of Peace, Hope, and Justice for the lives lost in the missile strike on an elementary school in Minab, Iran, on Saturday, February 28.

We pray for the 148 girls who went to school expecting an ordinary day of learning and instead were caught in violence that took their lives.

We pray for their grieving parents, siblings, and friends who faced the painful task of searching through the rubble for signs of those they love, only to return home with their school bags and textbooks.

We ask how we can delay calls for an immediate ceasefire when a school became a target of intended or unintended destruction.

We question how any strike can be called a victory when it results in the deaths of more than six dozen children.

March 1 is the official kickoff of Women’s History Month, and we’re ready to celebrate the audacious and awesome women who have shared their faith in big, bold and brave ways throughout the history of Methodism.

Watch for stories of Methodist women in the coming days!

In a Lenten devotional, Bishop Ruben Saenz, Jr. offered these thoughts:
"Real faith is not about looking good to others. It's about being real with God."

As we align our focus with God's through this season, we pray together for more of God's presence to be noticed:
"God who sees in secret, quiet my need to be noticed - admired, appreciated, applauded. In this Lenten season, teach me to seek the holiness of hiddenness. Help me practice my faith not for applause but for your approval alone. Let my generosity, my prayers, and my sacrifices be offerings known only to you. Meet me in the secret place where performance ends and true worship begins. Amen."

We are praying for those in the Middle East in amidst the conflict between the United States, Israel, Iran, as well as other countries in and around the Holy Land. As it is said by Jesus in the Beatitudes in Matthew 5: 9, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God." As Christians who emulate Christ everyday, we all hope, pray, and work together to end this horrific and unnecessary conflict and, through the Word of God, deliver peace among the nations and to love thy neighbor as thine self, and to love ALL our neighbors as children of God carved in his own image. As it is also said in the Bible in Galatians 3:28, " There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."

Bishop Tracy S. Malone, president of the Council of Bishops - The United Methodist Church, calls for prayer amid ongoing military strikes by the U.S. and Israel and retaliatory strikes by Iran. "As followers of Christ, let us be steadfast in prayer for those whose lives were taken that they may rest in God’s eternal peace. Let us pray for the wounded that healing and comfort may surround them. Let us pray for families and communities in mourning that they may find strength for the days ahead." https://www.unitedmethodistbishops.org/newsdetail/cob-pastoral-call-on-new-mideast-war-19640420

Matthew 26: 52

Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.

Romans 12: 18-21

If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. On the contrary:

“If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
