Negative voices seem to get all the attention and for good reason - they are usually the loudest voices in the room.

When we step back from negative voices and elevate positive ones, we are give God permission to perform miracles.

When a negative voice tries to speak, excuse yourself to seek positive people.

When we give a voice to the negative, we are planting seeds of negativity into our lives and dreams for success.

Our future may not be the way we would have designed it, but if we trust God, it will be perfect.

We must stop pretending that we are not hurt and start praying for God to help move forward by seeing the positive in a negative situation.

Today could be the day we stop hurting and start helping ourself when we step out of the pain and into the promise that God has for our lives.

God’s always been a prayer-answering God.

We don’t always expect God to hear us.

Prayer demands faith, and faith is sometimes hard - and we’re pleasantly surprised when God responds.

The longer we wait for an answer, and the deeper the need that evoked the prayer, the harder it is to keep trusting that God’s listening.

We cling to what seems to be diminishing hope - and when God comes through, we were not expecting it.

Perfection is not a requirement for answered prayer, but obedience does matter if we expect God to listen (Isaiah 59:1–2, Psalm 66:18).

May God help us to be amazed - not surprised - when he answers our prayers.

Humility is the most difficult trait to determine about ourselves.

Pride is the most dangerous trait.

Arrogance is the root problem.

Our sinful nature propels us to an excessive and unhealthy focus on ourselves.

We stand on a sliding scale somewhere between healthy humility and unhealthy pride.

We almost always believe we are more humble than we are.

We rarely recognize our pride until it’s too late.

The personal virtue of humility is a constant battle, but the most important one.

Humility is a daily decision and a lifetime commitment.

Everything and everyone is fighting for your attention - kids, phone, spouse, job, friends, TV, church, hobbies … they all want our time.

Rest is the most forgotten spiritual discipline because we don’t have room for it.

God set the standard by commanding the Israelites to rest one day a week
(Exodus 20:8–11).

There’s plenty of time for productivity and getting stuff done, but we were also created to rest.

We’ll rest better when our life is in order.
Organizing is playing the long game. It’s a lot of work upfront, but once you have a system in place, it’s easy to keep up, and your life is more peaceful.

Planning doesn’t sound very restful, but if we don’t plan for rest, it won’t happen.

Schedule time every week where nothing will be scheduled.

When you understand who God is, you stop feeling the need to keep your hidden side from others.

The wounds we carry around inside and show to no one are not only where the most damage has happened; they also are where our greatest potential strengths lie.

The cracks are what let the light in.

This is when we will discover that God is not afraid of what we are hiding.

He has a plan to address what is sinful, mend what is broken and fill what is empty.

He has a plan to use all of you - not just the curated parts you currently feel comfortable letting the world see, because he already knows about your hidden side.

We learn who we are by first discovering who God is.

The least selfish thing we can do is take care of our own soul.

Our failures are a part of our story, not the point of our story.

Our failures may feel like they run too deep to ever be cleansed, but Jesus’ blood has never seen a stain that couldn’t be washed clean, and that doesn’t change starting with us.

You may feel like you’ve been trying forever and nothing has worked. Like you’ve failed repeatedly. You may have been out at sea trying to fish for a while and caught nothing, but don’t lose hope.

When we mess up and feel like we’re failing, God calls us to remember his faithfulness, not our failures.

We are one obedient toss of the net at Jesus’ command from seeing the nets nearly breaking, full of fish.

The rain will fall on the just and the unjust (Matthew 5:45).

Good things will happen. Bad things will happen. Inexplicable things will happen. We decide what foundation we are built on, because every life will have its share of pain.

We can’t live a trouble-free life. We can’t take a vacation from human suffering and tragedy.

You might look at your life and at a tragedy that has befallen you and be unable to see any good right now.

We are interested in what will make us happy, while God is far more interested in what will make us holy.

Jesus loves us, and he wants to be glorified through our lives. He won’t always remove suffering, because it can make us stronger and bring us closer to him.

“Faithful are the wounds of a friend; profuse are the kisses of an enemy.” (Prov. 27:6) and “A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in a setting of silver” (Prov. 25:11).

Criticism can be one of the most precious gifts you can receive from those who are in a position to give it.

If we have trusted people in our life who we respect and will speak honestly and directly to us, we must listen and receive the lumps.

We must remind ourself they are actually loving us, even when it hurts.

They are saying hard things to us for our success, not our failure.

They are giving us something good, even though it stings, and we should thank them for this gift.

When faced with adversity and strife, it is easy to become negative.

In the uncaring face of the negative naysayer is the face of Jesus.

God created this person in his image.

During a challenging season the key is to forgive and move forward.

Forgiveness does not mean you allow the person to keep harming you by staying around them, but it means saying to God, “I surrender this over to you and move forward.”

Jesus never said it would be easy, but we find peace amid a storm when we look to him.

God will pour out a fresh touch that will enable us to capture new momentum.
