Scripture: Genesis 1:1-19: Psalm 8
Sermon: Beyond Up

The One, who “is above all and through all and in all” (Ephesians 4:6), whose majesty is beyond the heavens, beyond up, is the same as the Father, Son, and Spirit that we have encountered walking amongst us down here on Earth—on the mountain top, in a bush that burned but was not consumed, going before in a pillar of fire and cloud through the wilderness, in a manger in Bethlehem, by the graveside of a dear friend, and lightning people on fire and empowering people for ministries that are beyond their own strength and abilities to take on.

Creator of heaven and earth, ruler of all nations,

We consecrate this day to remember the men and women who gave the last full measure of their devotion to this nation and its people, whose lives were taken from them while in their country’s service.

Grant your peace and comfort to all who mourn this day, and surround us with your love and with family, friends, and community, because some burdens are too heavy to bear alone.

Speed the day when your peace reigns upon the earth so young lives will never again be sent off to war.

We seek these blessings and offer this prayer in Jesus name for your eternal glory. Amen.

Sermon: Renewing the Face of the Earth

Psalm 104 has one of my favorite verses in the Psalms (I have many, as you might imagine 🤣):

Psalms 104:25-26 (NRSV) Yonder is the sea, great and wide,
creeping things innumerable are there, living things both small and great. There go the ships, and Leviathan that you formed to sport in it.

God created the great Leviathan to play in the ocean. Knowing this will never cease to bring a smile to my face 😊
