Today was the third Sunday after Pentecost. Pastor Fischer’s sermon message focused on Love In Action. A summary is below.
During the Youth Message he asked our youth to each share thoughts on what they had enjoyed and what they learned as they had attended the Westminster Presbyterian Church Youth Conference held in Fayetteville last week. (See related Facebook post from earlier this week.)
Scripture readings today included Exodus 19:2-8; Psalm 100; Romans 5:1-8; Matthew 9:35-10:1.
The next session meeting will be on June 17, 2026 at 6 PM in the fellowship hall. Sardis will hold a special independence Day luncheon celebration on Sunday, July 5 following the service.
Facebook Summary: Mission: Love in Action
When Jesus looked upon the crowds, He did not simply see people—He saw their struggles, their fears, their burdens, and their spiritual need. Matthew tells us that He was “moved with compassion” because they were “harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” That compassion led Him to action. He taught, healed, served, and ultimately gave His life on the cross so that we might be reconciled to God.
The message of this passage is clear: Christ's mission is fueled by compassion, and He calls His followers to share in that mission. Jesus reminds us that “the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few.” There are still countless people searching for hope, purpose, forgiveness, and peace. The need for the Gospel remains as great today as it was in the first century.
Before sending His disciples into the harvest field, Jesus instructed them to pray. Prayer reminds us that this is God's mission, not ours. It teaches us dependence upon His power and helps us see others through His eyes. When we begin with prayer, we discover that God is already at work preparing hearts and opening doors for ministry.
The good news is that God does not call only the exceptionally gifted. He uses ordinary people transformed by His grace. The disciples were fishermen, tax collectors, and imperfect individuals, yet God used them to change the world. In the same way, every believer is called to participate in God's mission. We are not saved simply for our own benefit; we are called to represent Christ to the world around us.
As followers of Jesus, we are called to put our faith into action. We proclaim the Gospel with our words and demonstrate God's love through our actions. When we feed the hungry, encourage the discouraged, visit the lonely, forgive others, and share the hope of Christ, we become living examples of God's love. Truth proclaimed and love demonstrated work together to point people to Jesus.
Psalm 100 reminds us to “Serve the Lord with gladness.” Mission is not merely a duty; it is a privilege. We have the joy of sharing the hope we have found in Christ and participating in God's work of redemption in the world. Every act of kindness, every prayer, every word of encouragement, and every faithful witness can become part of God's harvest.
This week, consider where God may be calling you to show Christ's compassion. Who needs encouragement? Who needs a helping hand? Who needs to hear about the love and grace of Jesus Christ? May we answer Christ's call and live as faithful disciples, carrying His love into the world through both our words and our actions.
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the love and compassion You have shown us through Jesus Christ. Help us to see others through Your eyes and respond with hearts full of grace and mercy. Give us courage to share the Gospel, wisdom to serve others faithfully, and strength to follow wherever You lead. May our words reflect Your truth, our actions reveal Your love, and our lives point others to Jesus. Use us as laborers in Your harvest field for Your glory and the growth of Your Kingdom. In Christ's name we pray. Amen.
