We are a South African family with a passion to follow the example of Jesus, serving those in desperation and need of medical care with our God-given talents… We joined Mercy Ships as full-time volunteers in 2011 and served on the Africa mercy until 2015. After construction, we rejoined as ship-crew volunteers, sailed with the Global Mercy to Antwerp where the final stages of the outfi

I have taken the role of Chief Electrician, Evilin a nurse onboard, and RJ, our youngest son still in the Academy. Caroline left early in 2022 to start her first year at Stellenbosch University, Cape Town, to pursue a four-year teaching degree. Full-Time Volunteers

We are serving as full-time volunteers with Mercy Ships, which requires us to cover our room & boarding, medical aid, spending money, and travel costs, etc. In order for us to fulfill this full-time commitment, we are relying on financial support from supporters like yourself, which will enable us to meet our monthly goals. Enabling us to continue bringing hope and healing to those in desperate need, transforming lives through life-changing surgeries, continued training of local medical professionals in the countries we serve…

Missionary Burnout: A Silent Challenge, A Hidden Struggle
Missionary work is a calling filled with purpose, but it's also demanding and often spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausting. During our time serving in missions, we saw firsthand how burnout is a reality many missionaries face. The constant pressure of serving in challenging environments, witnessing the unimaginable, and being away from family, friends, and home for extended periods—all while caring for and serving those in desperate need—can take its toll.
Even with hearts full of purpose, the body and mind sometimes reach a breaking point. That’s when a space to rest, recover, and renew becomes vital, whether it's to continue the mission or transition back to normal life.

That’s where Marlothi View comes in. We're creating a sanctuary for missionaries to rejuvenate, find peace, and restore their spirits. Nestled in the heart of the bushveld, next to the Kruger National Park, Marlothi View will be a place of beauty and tranquility—a perfect environment for healing.
A Place of Rest and Restoration
At Marlothi View, we want to offer more than just a retreat. We aim to create a “safe space” where those who have given so much of themselves can rest, reconnect with God, and rediscover their purpose. Our vision includes comfortable accommodation, communal spaces for sharing experiences, and an atmosphere of quiet reflection surrounded by nature’s beauty.

As our son RJ prepares to finish school in 2025, we’re beginning to plan for the next chapter of our lives after Mercy Ships. We’re incredibly thankful for the support that has enabled us to serve in the mission field. Now, we’re excited to share our vision for Marlothi View—a sanctuary of peace and restoration in South Africa.

To make this dream a reality, we need your help. And what better way to make this project fun and meaningful for everyone than by building it one brick at a time? We know there are some amazing planners and organizers among you, and we’re calling on your unique talents to help make this vision come to life. We’ve calculated the total project cost, including construction, sustainable infrastructure, and essential amenities, and it all comes down to one simple idea: bricks!
