Give thanks unto the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people.
1 chronicles 16:8

Giving thanks and making God's deeds known can begin by naming the care we have received through another person. A specific thank you tells someone their quiet effort was seen. It also turns praise outward, reminding us that we are not sustained by our own strength alone. Today, recall one kindness you can acknowledge without exaggeration or making the person uncomfortable.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the people whose care has helped me. Open my eyes to work that happens quietly around me. Help me express appreciation plainly, without using praise to gain favor. Let remembering Your goodness make me more generous in noticing others. Amen.

Each one directs our attention away from ourselves and toward the God who speaks, saves, gives, creates faith, and receives the glory.

Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
John 17:17

Jesus asks the Father to sanctify His disciples through truth. Truth is therefore more than a weapon for correcting someone else; it is God's work within us. Before forwarding a rumor, repeating a complaint, or explaining another person's motives, we can ask whether our words are true and loving. In close relationships, honesty also means naming our own fear instead of disguising it as certainty about someone else's intentions. God's word can expose the stories we tell to keep ourselves innocent. Being set apart by truth may begin with a quiet correction: admitting that we misunderstood, that we exaggerated, or that we have not heard the whole account. Such humility does not weaken truth. It gives our speech a better foundation than the need to appear right.

Prayer

Father, let Your truth work first in my own heart. Reveal the assumptions I have mistaken for facts and the excuses I use to avoid responsibility. Help me speak clearly without humiliating anyone. Give me patience to hear the full story and courage to correct my own words. In difficult conversations, make honesty an expression of love rather than a display of power. Amen.

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:”. “That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.”
2 Timothy 3:16-17 KJV

God wants us to be prepared to do good works. Thankfully, he gave us the Scriptures. Today, the Bible is translated into many different languages, dialects, and versions. We have online Bibles, audio Bibles, and Bibles that can fit into our pockets. Rather than a threat, all these Bibles are a great blessing because they make the Scriptures plentiful, understandable, and available. Oh yes, a few translations are questionable, but nearly all make it clear who Jesus is and how we come to him for salvation. But we must remember that the goal of Scripture is not to be learned but to be lived. God intended his Word to be practical truth — a gift that prepares us to "be thoroughly equipped for every good work."

My Prayer...

Holy God, it still amazes me that you chose to speak to us, your finite creatures, in our own human words. May I never take for granted the great gift of being able to read your Scriptures and learn your Truth. But Father, please give me the character and the courage not just to know those Scriptures, but to put them to practical use as they train me to do your will and do good things to bless others. In Jesus' name, I thank you for the Scriptures. Amen.

Psalms 14:1-2

Without a belief in God, what is a man? Corrupt and evil. Aim to do good. Believe in God. Through Him all things are possible.

Prayer

Father, I know You, and to know You is to love You. I thank You for always being there for me and beg Your forgiveness for the times I have doubted You. I have lost faith at times, but You were with me then and now. I love You, my God. Amen.

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Psalms 23: 1-3

At the time it was written, shepherding was a very common activity. Sheep are nearly defenseless against predators, and they scare easily, especially in groups. Let the Lord be your shepherd and guide you to more tranquil places. He will lead you on the right path if you are willing to follow. Think of the consequences for a sheep: follow and be protected, eat, rest, and survive or stray and be alone, starve, fear, and die. The choice is easy.

Prayer

O Lord my Shepherd, I shall not want. All I have needed thy hand hath provided. You have protected me, acting as my rock and shield against all evil. Alas, courageous God, I have sinned, allowing evil to enter my heart even whilst You stood guard against it. Forgive me for this, and know that my pure love for You shall not wane. I pledge all of this in honor of my service to You and Your son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
