Interesting history for St. John Lutheran Church.

Seek & Ye Shall Find! A photo of Christ Kruse was recently forwarded to us by his third great-granddaughter. Mr. Kruse was responsible for bringing many German Lutheran farmers into the county south of Lincoln and south of Sylvan Grove through his involvement in the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Schaumburg, Illinois, where many of these settlers lived after coming to America.

Kruse had real estate, insurance and loan offices in both Lincoln and Sylvan Grove. He was instrumental in establishing both the St. John's (Lincoln) and Bethlehem Lutheran (Sylvan) churches on the same day in 1881.

He and his wife Catherina are in this photo taken in Chicago. Nice to have this surface before Sylvan's 150th celebration!

There will be a free movie at the Finch Theatre in Lincoln on Thursday, August 14th at 7pm. Concessions will be open and childcare is provided by donation, if needed. Information on how to become a foster/adoptive home or a CASA volunteer will be provided after the movie.

Come on out to St. John Lutheran church this evening for the closing VBS program and BBQ. Weather permitting, there will be bouncy houses, train rides, & balloon animals.
