Subject: Seeking God's Direction: Key Insights from Sunday's Message

Dear Church Family,

I hope this message finds you walking closely with the Lord and experiencing His peace in your life.

Summary: Sunday's sermon explored the vital practice of seeking God's direction in every area of our lives through the story of David in 1 Samuel 23. We examined how David consistently inquired of the Lord before making decisions—even when the answer seemed obvious—and how God faithfully guided him through both victories and potential dangers. This message reminds us that God is deeply interested in every detail of our lives and desires to direct our steps. He's not an obscure God who expects us to stumble along; rather, He wants us to know His plan and will speak clearly when we seek Him wholeheartedly.

Takeaways:

Always ask God first, even when the answer seems obvious. David had previous success against the Philistines, yet he still inquired of the Lord before engaging in battle. Don't let past victories cause you to assume you know God's will without asking. Make it your pattern to seek Him in all things, not just when you're in trouble.
Verify what you're hearing and get the complete picture. David asked the Lord multiple times to confirm direction and gather all necessary details. You can know the "what" of God's will without knowing the "when" or the "how," and acting on partial revelation can lead to missed opportunities or unnecessary hardship. Take time to ensure you have the full story before moving forward.
God guides us through multiple channels. The Holy Spirit speaks through Scripture, prophetic words, godly counsel, circumstances, common sense, dreams, and His still small voice in our hearts. Stay sensitive to how He's speaking, and remember that prophecy in the New Testament brings comfort, strength, and encouragement—not harsh condemnation.
I encourage you to make seeking God's direction a daily practice. Spend time in His Word, listen for His voice in worship, and trust that He is working on your behalf even when you don't recognize it. His way is always better than our way.

May the Lord continue to order your steps and give you wisdom for every decision you face.

In His Service,

Pastor Lane Olson

Subject: Choices That Lead to God's Blessing - Sermon Recap

Dear New Song Family,

I hope this message finds you walking in God's favor and trusting His provision for your life.

This Sunday, we continued our journey through the life of David, exploring a pivotal season when he found himself in a cave surrounded by unlikely companions. The sermon, "Choices That Lead to God's Blessing," challenged us to examine how we respond when life doesn't look like we expected—when we're anointed for a palace but living in a cave.

Summary: The sermon explored three critical decisions that position us to receive God's favor and blessing, even when circumstances seem contrary to His promises. Drawing from 1 Samuel 22:1-5, we saw how David's time in the Cave of Adullam wasn't a detour from God's plan but an essential part of his preparation for kingship. The message reminded us that we're always in process—God is preparing us for blessings we can't yet handle. Rather than allowing fear to drive our decisions or despising God's provision because it doesn't match our expectations, we must learn to recognize, value, and invest in what God has already placed in our lives.

Takeaways:

Decide that it's God who blesses you, not your own strength or strategy. When we're stuck or afraid, we must remember that "the steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord" (Psalm 37:23). God guides us when we're moving, not when we're sitting still waiting for perfect clarity. Sometimes we need to make the best choice we can and trust God to redirect us if needed.
Recognize and value God's provision, even when it doesn't look like what you expected. David didn't receive mighty warriors—he received the discontented, the indebted, and the distressed. Yet these "misfits" became his mighty men because he saw their potential through God's eyes and invested in them. Stop praying for something different than what God has already provided. The people, resources, and circumstances in your life right now are exactly what you need for this season of preparation.
Listen to God's voice and take action, even when it requires leaving your comfort zone. David had to leave the safety of the cave when God spoke through the prophet Gad. Delayed obedience is disobedience. We hear God's voice most clearly when we're in His presence—through worship, praise, and thanksgiving. The basics matter: water baptism, being filled with the Holy Spirit, consistent Bible reading, and regular prayer are non-negotiables for hearing and following God's direction.
Closing Remarks:

Perhaps you're in a "cave season" right now—a place that doesn't match the promises God has spoken over your life. Remember, you're in process. God is knocking off rough edges and stretching your faith so you can handle the blessing that's coming. Don't despise where you are. Instead, declare like David, "I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth."

We were made for more. Whatever situation you're facing, God has a bigger plan than you can see right now. Trust His provision, invest in what He's given you, and watch Him multiply it beyond your imagination.

In His Service,

Pastor Lane

Subject: Keep Your Lamp Burning Bright - Mother's Day Message Recap

Dear Beloved Church Family,

I hope this message finds you well and that you had a blessed Mother's Day celebration with your loved ones.

Summary: This Sunday, Tara Jenkins brought us a powerful message about maintaining our spiritual fire in the midst of life's demands. Using the parable of the ten virgins from Matthew 25, she reminded us that we are like clay lamps—earthen vessels designed to carry God's light. However, between the responsibilities of parenting, work, relationships, and simply surviving daily life, our lamps can run dry. The sermon challenged us to recognize when we've filled our lives with good things but neglected the oil of God's presence. We cannot live off someone else's spiritual oil, and we need more than just showing up—we need intimacy with God that both fills us with oil AND ignites us with His fire.

Takeaways:

You cannot borrow someone else's oil - Just as the foolish virgins couldn't borrow oil from the wise ones, we each need our own personal, intimate relationship with God. Church attendance and religious activities aren't enough; we need to prioritize time alone with Him to refill our spiritual reserves.
A lamp without fire has no purpose - Having oil in your lamp isn't enough. You need God to light you on fire. Many of us have some connection with God but lack the passion, expectancy, and fire of our first love. We're meant to shine brightly, not just survive.
Running dry affects everything - When we neglect our spiritual oil, it impacts every area of life—our joy fades, our countenance changes, our ability to handle stress weakens, and we lose our effectiveness as lights in a dark world. Prioritizing Sabbath rest and time with God isn't optional; it's essential.
If you've found yourself spiritually exhausted, just going through the motions, or feeling like your fire has dimmed, I encourage you to take intentional steps this week to refill your lamp. Find your quiet place—maybe a garden, a prayer closet, or an early morning spot—and ask God to not only fill you but to ignite you afresh with His Holy Spirit.

May your lamp burn brightly this week as you seek His presence above all else.

In His Light,

Pastor Lane & Tara Jenkins
