Psalm 20:7 tells that some trust in chariots and some in horses but we trust in the name of our Lord. First, let me say that I love this verse. I used it at a high school bachelorette service in CA in the early ‘80’s. In the Old Testament horses and chariots represented power and security. It’s no different for us today as we may fill in that blank differently with cars, houses, bank accounts and investments that give us a sense of power and security. We may trust in our health, looks, friends, family, etc…that honestly can be gone in a minute. I often think how one phone call can change our life especially if it’s something in which we place our trust for security. The overriding question for us is, “In what or in whom will we place our trust?” Is it something or someone that can fade, pass, or simply go away? Is our trust only connected to things of this world here on earth or eternity? It’s easy to trust in many things that quite honestly as my dear old grandmother would say, “Don’t amount to a hill of beans!” Our trust better be connected to something, actually someone with eternal significance. It matters in whom we place our trust in that determines where we will spend eternity because there is life after death and that decision must be made while we are here on earth. True, some will trust in horses and some in chariot ms (the things of this world) but we (let’s be part of this group) will trust in the name of our Lord. It’s critical that each of personally put our trust in (faith) in the name of the Lord for salvation and our daily spiritual journey with Him. In whom will you trust this day? Let us trust in Him with all of our heart and lean not on our own understanding (or the things of this world) but in all our ways (in all things) acknowledge Him that our paths are made straight which is the only way to eternity with Him (Prov 3:5-6; John 14:6).
