Fr Chris Stoley was our October 17 meeting.

Fr Chris Stoley Pastor of Sacred Heart (St James) Parish in Crete

Fr Stoley graduated from Pius X High School in 2007, graduated from St Gregory the Great Seminary in 2011, and was ordained in 2015.

He took French in High School not Spanish.

In 2020, when he was assigned to be Pastor of Sacred Heart (St James) Parish in Crete, he thought that must have been a mistake since he doesn’t speak Spanish.

He was sent to Guatemala for 2 months to learn Spanish. When he returned to Crete, he found out that Spanish spoke in Crete was a Spanish Slang and not Proper Spanish.

Crete has 750 families that are German, Czech, Cuban, Guatemalan, Puerto Rican, Dominican Republic, El Salvadorians and Mexicans from three States each speaking a different Slangs of Spanish!

The Church has 250 seats. They have a Saturday night at 5 pm that is in English and the church is full. Then a Spanish Mass with 350! On Sunday a 9 am English Mass to a full Church and a 11 am Spanish Mass with 350!!

The school has 100 students with 65 speaking a Spanish and 35 English speaking. They have Christ the King Sisters teaching at the school.

Ron Lee was the speaker at our August 15 meeting,

Inspired by Gospel values, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, a Catholic lay organization, leads people of faith to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to the needy and suffering in the tradition of its founder, Blessed Frederic Ozanam, and patron, St. Vincent de Paul. Organized locally, Vincentians witness God’s love by embracing all works of charity and justice.
Almost all of our resources come from parish donations. A contribution to St. Vincent de Paul is unlike any other: Every single cent—100%— goes to those in need. Not one dime goes to any administrative costs. We never spend parishioner money on fundraising or any other overhead expense. With the exception of an occasional donation to the St. Vincent de Paul disaster relief fund every dollar of every contribution is spent to aid the less fortunate in the Lincoln area. Our mission is focused on helping the people in our immediate community.
your friends and neighbors in the parish dispense your contributions. We believe we are very prudent with your money.
Forms and bureaucracy do not drive us. Vincentians make decisions by talking with people. We go out in pairs and personally meet nearly all the people we help, most often by sitting in their living room or at their kitchen table and listening. We try to understand as best we can our neighbors’ circumstances. We ask ourselves what God would have us do.
Vincentians focus on the corporal works of mercy. We offer aid to those without food, facing eviction, turned off utilities, living without beds and furniture, and many other forms of emergency services.

The Serra Club of Lincoln hosted its Annual Seminarian & Parent Appreciation Dinner at the Embassy Suites last August, welcoming nearly 120 attendees. President Scott Yates opened the evening by sharing the mission of Serra and noting that he himself attended this banquet for five years as a seminarian.
The invocation was made by Fr. Brian Kane, Rector of St. Gregory the Great Seminary. He also announced that the seminary received nearly 50 seminarians this past fall. Seminarian Colter Fulton delivered an inspiring message on behalf of his fellow seminarians, expressing heartfelt thanks to the Serrans for their unwavering support and prayers.
Diocese of Lincoln Vocations Director and Serra Club Chaplain, Fr. Alec Sasse followed with a thoughtful and moving address, reminding everyone that seminarians—and their families—are real people with brothers, sisters, and loved ones who also need our prayers. He also shared that this year’s Propaedeutic Year has 23 seminarians, including nine from the Lincoln Diocese, and four from the Archdiocese of Omaha.
Diocese of Lincoln Bishop James Conley said the Serra Club of Lincoln is very much looked up to nationally. He thanked the Serra Club for everything they do for the seminarians, priests and religious sisters. He also announced that the Marian Sisters have a new postulate and the Christ the King Sisters have two new postulates! Bishop then gave his final blessing.
