"But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" + 2 Peter 3:18
"LORD AND SAVIOR"
Jesus is a Savior from sin and death. The Holy Spirit reveals to us that we were not bought with a gold mine, nor with all the cash in a town's bank vault. That would be a lot, but that price would not be sufficient! God paid such a price that He redeemed us with His very life! He spilled not just His blood, but He spilled His blood unto death, to break sin and death's cold, strong grip upon us. You were purchased back from the Devil and a world that is lost and heading to Hell: literally by a King's ransom!
To understand this is to understand not only the seriousness of sin and it's consequences, but also that you now belong to Christ. He gave everything for you! What glorious love He bestows on those He adopts as children! So now, "You are not your own. You were bought at a price" (1 Cor. 6). To know Jesus as our Savior is therefore also to know Him as our Lord. If I now set myself against the truth of God's Word, I am setting myself against Jesus because He is both "the Truth" (John 14:6) and "the Word" (John 1:1)
The one who is genuinely saved will say, "Not my will, but Thine, O Lord." Those who are not will say, "Not Thine will, but mine". To say that Jesus is our Savior but live as those He is not Lord is to live in a constant state of rebellion of the saving God. Is this the position we wish to take against our Jesus, that we raise a middle finger to His will and shake our fist at Heaven? Heaven forbid that those who claim Jesus Christ live in such a way!
Is the concept of Jesus being both your Lord and Savior permanently placed into how you think about the Christ? The conjunction "and" conjoins both truths together and how we are to believe and live in Him who is both our Savior and Lord. Grow in His grace and also in the knowledge of the truth.
