This is the day that the lord has made let us rejoice and be glad in it good morning to Members And all who would read this. Today I’m going to talk about promises to ourselves and to God. Text Philippians 3:14 “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus “ Number one: commit to forget your Failures The apostle Paul says forgetting those things which are behind. All of us have failed somewhere at sometime or another but we don’t have to live in our Past what we can do is Focus on the here and now. We all make a lot of resolutions that we don’t keep we might as will say we’re going to eat more and exercise less we probably could do it. But no one wants to purposely do things that will bring harm to ourselves GodDoes not want us to go through life branding ourselves as a failure. So today do me a favor forget about your past failures and focus on the future that God has for you.
#2 Commit to give up grudges : Colossians 3:13 Bear each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another forgive as the Lord forgives you. God is telling us to give up our grudges and deep resentment we have for whatever reason. If you know you are holding a grudge against someone God is saying give it up. Gods way is to forgive. Do you recall the parable that Jesus told about a servant who was forgiven a huge debt by the king and then refuse to forgive someone else a tiny debt he said his unforgiving spirit landed him in prison.Unforgiving servant always end up in prison prison of anger guilt a depression.
#3 Commit to Restore Relationships Romans 12:18 “if it is possible as for as it depends on you. Some people will not allow you to. Do your part and leave the rest up to the Lord. Maybe God is saying that this is the right time to restore the ruined relationship going and sincerely saying that you’re sorry for those angry words or selfish and unthoughtful actions. Last and not least #4 Commit to turn your back on your besetting sins. The New Testament says that is exactly how many questions choose to live a Christ that to set us free Holy Spirit has given us the power to be free but just like those former slaves many Christians still choose to obey the old Master. Romans 6:12 says “therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires when God says for us not to let sin control the way we live and not give into its evil desires he is challenging us to turn away from our Christian writers used to talk about besetting sins What they meant by besetting sins were those sins that a Christian was prone to do time and time again. For most of us when we are becoming a Christian we give up certain sins easily but there are other sins we know are wrong that we have a hard time giving up those are besetting sins. God says you are no longer a slave to sin so don’t live like one or act like one if you will ask God’s forgiveness for your sin He has the power to give you to resist that sin this new year can you be a new era in your spiritual Ilife So don’t forget to forget your faith give up your grudges we still your relationships turn your back on resetting seniors may God bless you and keep you the prayer from Pastor Evva McDowelldon’t miss that opportunity
