A friend invited Alicia to participate in a weekend ministry event at the Louisiana State Penitentiary just for fun. Alicia caught the prison ministry bug and within 18 months the

Lord had opened the door for Alicia and a team of women from Colorado Springs to begin volunteering at La Vista Correctional Facility, a 500-bed women’s prison in the Colorado Department of Corrections. Alicia grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana, attended high school in Waterloo, Belgium, has degrees from Auburn University and the University of Houston, and completed a Certificate in Correctional Ministry from Wheaton College. She has had a career in ministry serving with Young Life camping for 17 years and as the executive administrator at Front Range Alliance Church (Colorado Springs) since May 2018. Having served at La Vista Correctional Facility since February 2017 as a volunteer program leader and since May 2021 as an associate chaplain, the Lord has given Alicia “the affection of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:8) for the incarcerated women in her care. She is humbled and grateful to continue sharing the love of Jesus Christ at LVCF with Good News Global. Chaplain Reeves has joined the Good News Global staff as a part-time chaplain at La Vista Correctional Facility. She will also continue working part-time at Front Range Alliance Church. Her ministry to women at LVCF includes one-one-one sessions with offenders, small group discipleship, trauma healing groups, a weekly Friday evening gathering for worship and Bible study, special events, and hosting an annual Mom & Kids Christmas party in the prison with Front Range Alliance Church.

Hope has a way of showing up in unexpected places.

Behind prison walls, God is writing stories of redemption, restoring broken hearts, and giving men and women a reason to believe their future can be different.

Today, we simply celebrate this truth:

No wall is too high. No past is too broken. No life is beyond the reach of God's grace.

The Gospel changes everything. 🙌

A Story of Freedom
As told by a Good News Global Chaplain

When I went into the housing unit, one of the men who had been in custody for about a year came up to talk with me. During this time in custody, he began taking the Bible seriously for the first time in his life. He placed his faith in Christ and started faithfully studying the Scriptures. He had been in custody before, but had never truly pursued learning and applying the Bible.

Recently, he shared with me how he has been walking away from situations where he normally would have become angry and fought. For about three months now, he has avoided fights entirely. What especially encouraged him was that officers and others around him had noticed the change in his life as well.

For the first time in his life, he is living with self-control.

This deeply encouraged me because throughout much of this past year, as he was learning the Bible, he regularly shared with me how he had gotten into another fight. It seemed to be a constant struggle. So we spent a great deal of time talking through what the Bible says about anger, self-control, and how to respond to others. I cannot even remember half of the conversations we had on the subject, but I do remember how much time, patience, and focused one-on-one ministry went into it.

Now, seeing the fruit of that work is incredibly encouraging.

God truly transforms lives.

A DIFFERENT KIND OF SILENCE.
Inspired by moments our chaplains experience every day.

The room had always been loud. Arguments. Complaints. Anger.

But this day was different.

As Scripture was read aloud, the room became completely silent.
For the first time in a long time... peace filled the room.

God's Word still has the power to quiet troubled hearts.

Praise God!

The Gospel doesn't need four walls.

Whether inside a jail or prison chapel, beneath the open sky, or wherever there's room to gather, God's Word is being proclaimed.

Good News Global Chaplains faithfully meet people where they are because there is no place beyond the reach of God's love.

The Gospel has no boundaries - here or around the world.

Around the world, incarceration does more than deprive people of physical freedom. It strips away identity—who a person is—and crushes hope—why they should keep going or change their ways? What is the purpose of their life? Shame becomes the loudest voice. Despair becomes the everyday reality. The future is bleak, stripped of hope and purpose.

But into the darkness, the Gospel speaks to those who are open and listening, offering freedom, identity, and hope.

It’s easy to forget those behind bars.

Out of sight…
Out of mind…
But not to God.

Every man and woman in a cell has a story.
A past.
A future.
And a soul deeply loved by Jesus.

Scripture reminds us to remember those in prison as if we were there with them.

Because compassion doesn’t stop at prison walls.
It steps inside.
It listens.
It shares the hope of Christ.

And that’s exactly what chaplains do every day. What a privilege to share the Good News with the forgotten behind bars.
