Friends,

I only learned today that a family is in need of assistance. Tracy and her daughter Alana, the entirety of their family, really need our help.

At just 12 years old, Alana was diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), a condition that disrupts the nervous system in ways she cannot control. Her symptoms have included paralysis in her legs, long stretches in a wheelchair, and daily challenges no child should ever have to face. This diagnosis has changed every part of their lives: physically, emotionally, and financially.

I had no idea the extent of what they were going through until today. Now that I do, I feel compelled to ask our Chapel family, and all who follow this page, to help them shoulder this burden.

Tracy has been doing everything she can as a devoted mother, but the weight is overwhelming. Medical needs, transportation, daily care, and countless unexpected expenses have stretched them beyond what they can manage alone.

If you are able, I’m asking you from the heart to consider donating to support them. Even a small gift makes a real difference. And whether or not you can give, please keep Tracy and Alana in your prayers.

Thank you for being a community that responds with compassion when someone is hurting.

Please join me in praying for one of our parishioners who has suffered a serious medical emergency. God knows their name and their need. Let us lift them up in faith.

And please also pray for friends of the family who have also lost a loved one today. Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.

Many of us appreciate the familiar dismissal at Mass: “The Mass is ended. Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.” After 2011, the Church offered several options, but the one that speaks most clearly to our mission is: “Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life.”

This dismissal reminds us that the work of priesthood does not end at the altar. It continues in the ordinary moments of our day. The laity are sent out to make God’s presence visible wherever they go. Whether we are sharing breakfast with family, spending time with friends, or interacting with strangers, the question becomes: How can I demonstrate the Glory of God in whatever I am doing today?

St. Thomas Aquinas teaches that love is willing the good of the other as other. I believe we must make this even more explicit:

Love is willing the good of the other as other for the Glory of God.

Whenever our actions bring peace, dignity, patience, compassion, or encouragement into a human situation, we participate in Christ’s priestly work.

The reconciliation of divinity and humanity is lived through concrete actions that allow God’s goodness to appear in the world through us. Priesthood, even for the baptized laity, is not confined to “the temple.” We must carry it into the world as priestly witnesses, helping to draw the lost sheep back to the fold.

May we glorify the Lord by our lives today.
