Many thanks to the group of women who came from Casey County Detention Center to the cemetery today to clear away the old arrangements to make way for families to bring fresh ones this Memorial Day. We are grateful for the monetary gifts folks share to cover the costs of mowing and gravel, but we depend on the generosity of the detention center administration for allowing us to borrow inmates and supervisors a couple of times each year to do the physical work of gathering, bagging, loading, and hauling away the flowers left by families in past months. They even cleared the dumpster for us.

Circumstances and weather cooperated today for us to welcome friends and family in person to Peavey Cemetery, Inc. to pay their respects and lay flowers on graves. We were running out of battery power to take photos, but managed to get these memories.

Peavey Cemetery welcomes your visit this Memorial Day weekend and will appreciate any monetary contribution you can make toward its upkeep. Board members accept no pay for their work on behalf of the cemetery, but it is only right that those who mow and trim to maintain the grounds so beautifully be paid for the work they do throughout the year. Board members will be at the cemetery Saturday through Monday to help locate graves, answer questions and receive your contributions.

Due to present concerns, board members will not be at the cemetery to greet visitors this weekend. We do hope folks will observe the social distancing guidance and still stop by to pay respects to our loved ones who have passed. For those able to contribute financially for the upkeep of the grounds, we would be so grateful. Board member Phyllis Miller lives in the curve near the church and will be home if you want to leave a donation with her. The Bedford Inn in Liberty will be staffed at the front desk and will be able to receive donations as well. Make checks out to Peavey Cemetery. It's been a pleasant day to be among family visiting at our cemetery. We did not capture photos of everyone, but we are certainly grateful for those who came by today. 100% of the contributions made will be used in the upkeep of the grounds. We'll have board representation tomorrow afternoon and early Monday as well for folks coming by.

This coming weekend is set aside as a time for remembering those who died in the military service of these United States. Our clan extends the remembering to those who've "gone on." Those of us who serve on the board of Peavey Cemetery in Casey County, Kentucky will be on the grounds to welcome visitors.
