One of the great things that I love in my work at Liberty United Methodist Church is the Worship Through the Arts concert series. This year we have six stellar events and the first one is on Saturday, September 23, 2023 featuring the incredible voices of Millie Nottingham and Lori Tucker. "An Evening of Song" will include music of many styles from Gospel through the Broadway stage. Accompanying the concert will be the outstanding pianist, Joe Cartwright. Mark your calendars and plan on attending this opening event of our concert series. This concert will be given in loving memory of Rick Freeman.

This Sunday, June 18 (Father's Day) the Liberty UMC Chancel Choir will be performing a very special anthem for our choral offering in our services. A few months ago, we were gifted a new anthem, "Hymn for Promise" - by Jeffrey L. Ames which was written for and deciated to Bill Grace. Loved by so many people, Bill has inspired so many students and friends over the years...this piece will offer a glimpse of the beauty of Bill's amazing personality. The anthem is written for SATB, piano and violin accompaniment, and also uses "Come, Thou Fount" hymn in the middle of the piece.
After Bill retired from teaching, he joined the Liberty UMC Chancel Choir for nearly 20 years - what a blessing for us! - and retired last year from our choir. Violinist Rob Patterson will play on our premiere performance adding more beauty to the piece, for sure! Bill and family will be in attendance and I cannot wait for the emotions and spiritual high that we will witness during this time. "Here's my heart, O take and seal it, seal it for thy courts above." Much love to you Bill Grace!

It wasn't that long ago that we were decked out in a lot of red for our Chiefs on Superbowl Sunday! I can remember saying then in the service that there would be another Sunday coming up when we could bring out our red again...and here it is - Pentecost! The sanctuary is all decked out in red...I hope you can join in by wearing red on Sunday too! I hope to see you there!

Reflecting back on our time with Ken Medema this past weekend. From choir rehearsal & retreat, to Saturday's concert and Sunday morning worship...working with Ken Medema is unlike anything else I have ever experienced. He is certainly anointed and blessed in his creative and spiritual gifts of music and faith musical story creations. Still making our way down from the mountaintop experience he has taken us on! Bless you Ken and Beverly Vandermolen, Ken's awesome assistant.

Let me say how pleasing it is to have Ken Medema back on our concert series! I have heard the name Ken Medema ever since I was a youth choir member at Steelville First Baptist Church…now, a few years ago! His music, even then, was pleasing to my voice, my soul, and to my spiritual walk. I spent a week at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, a few years ago in a retreat setting called Interlude – it was an amazing time of spiritual and musical renewal. It was also a time for me to meet Ken for the first time and experience the richness in musical and spiritual gifts that he has been blessed with. You are about to be taken on a musical and spiritual mountaintop experience.
My hope is that you see God working through Ken’s amazing gifts of music, composition, improvisation, storytelling, and his always looking for the good. May this experience be one that stays with you for years to come.

Enjoy the journey!
