In this homily for the Feast of Pentecost, Abp. Irineos reflects on the true meaning of the Holy Spirit as the “Comforter,” challenging the common assumption that divine comfort means an easier or more pleasant life. Drawing on the words of Christ and the teaching of the Fathers, especially St. Theophan the Recluse and St. Seraphim of Sarov, he explains that the Spirit does not remove struggle but enters into it, transforming tribulation into a path of repentance, purification, and life. The descent of the Holy Spirit is thus revealed not as relief from suffering, but as the abiding presence of God who grants strength, illumination, and lasting peace even amid trial, calling the faithful to seek not worldly ease but steadfastness, vigilance, and communion with the Spirit who remains with the Church forever.

Homily for the Sunday of the Holy Fathers of the First Ecumenical Council

In this homily for the Seventh Sunday of Pascha, Archbishop Irineos reflects on Christ’s High Priestly Prayer and the commemoration of the Holy Fathers of the First Ecumenical Council, drawing out the profound meaning of the Lord’s petition “that they may be one.” This is not a superficial unity, but a communion grounded in truth—handed down by the apostles, safeguarded by the Fathers, and proclaimed in the Nicene faith. Confronting the challenge of Arianism and the temptation toward false unity, Abp. Irineos calls the faithful to steadfastly preserve the unity of the Church in right belief, showing how this same calling endures in our own lives, parishes, and homes today.

A Short Homily from the Feast of the Ascension of our Lord:

In this Feast of the Ascension homily, Abp. Irineos proclaims that Christ’s departure is not an absence but an elevation—of our very human nature into the life of God. Drawing on the Fathers, he reminds the faithful that the Ascension is not merely something Christ accomplished, but a destiny we are called to live into now. The question is no longer whether heaven exists, but whether we are allowing it to take root within us through repentance, prayer, and a life oriented toward God. As Christ ascends in the flesh and opens the way to the Kingdom, believers are challenged to examine where their hearts truly dwell—and to begin even now to live as citizens of heaven.
